Just FYI I'm probably going to completely miss whatever bout is on first. I didn't plan on the card starting this early and had figured it would be 9pm EST like usual..

 

In the opener of the FS1 televised portion of the card, Jamie Kavanagh beat Andres Navarro by UD. Scores were 80-72 and 79-73 x2.

 

John Joe Nevin vs. Alberto Candelaria, 6 rounds @ lightweight

 

2012 Olympic silver medalist Nevin is making his pro debut.

Round 1

Candelaria is sticking out his jab, waving it to his right as he backs up. Nevin moves in with lead left hooks and whipping overhand rights, catching Candelaria on the side of the head and bottom of the chin as Candelaria pulls straight back, leaning away. Whipping rights over the top by Nevin, countering the backfoot jab of Candelaria. Wild power shots by Nevin pressing forward, thumping Candelaria by the ear. Candelaria leans in and smothers. Big wide hooks on the body by Nevin up close, backing Candelaria up. Nevin slaps Candelaria on the side with an uppercut. Candelaria jumps to his right and puts in a right hand lead. Nevin catches it between his gloves and whips in some more body hooks, backing Candelaria into the ropes. Clinch by Candelaria. Lazy 1-2 by Candelaria after letting Nevin go, covering up as Nevin slams down with a left hook and clubbing right.

Round 2

Candelaria is sticking in his left jab and then hopping away, out and to his right. Nevin is letting the jabs glide up along his nose as he bashes away with long hooks, reaching for Candelaria. Whipping roundhouse right on the body by Nevin. Candelaria is jabbing into Nevin's gloves and looping in rights and lefts from outside while leaning partway back. Candelaria is caught on the belt line with a long right uppercut. Clinch. Nevin knocks away Candelaria's jab with a backhanded swat and throws a big long hook as Candelaria tilts himself away. Candelaria moves in and ties up. Nevin feints a right hand to the body and instead digs a hard left on the other side, pivoting into it. Candelaria ties up and slaps Nevin's sides. Nevin steps forward and then reins up short as Candelaria almost plants a jab on his face.

Round 3

Candelaria is jabbing straight at Nevin's chest and then hooking around with the right into Nevin's left shoulderblade. Nevin is putting together combos of left jabs or, more frequently, hooks, followed by the big right uppercut on the body. Candelaria is caught with big hooks and right haymakers while backing up and popping jabs circling left. Stiff jab by Nevin coming forward. Triangular-armed overhand right by Nevin falling in.

Round 4

Candelaria is getting needled with the jab as Nevin pushes him across the ring. Thudding left hooks behind the head by Nevin as Candelaria turns in toward him while sidestepping away. Candelaria is caught with a hook drifting in reverse. Right uppercuts on the body and wild hooks up top by Nevin. Candelaria is turning his body rightward and firing jabs mostly to deflect Nevin's punching and disrupt its timing, his own jabs going well wide of the mark.

Round 5

Candelaria is unable to escape the big hooking combos of Nevin, turning either side as he gets steered around the ring, turning with shots but still taking most of them flush on the broad side of the cheek. Candelaria is starting to punch with Nevin, jabbing into his nose. Blood starts trickling from the nose of Nevin as he walks through an increasing number of accurate jabs to keep hooking at the head of Candelaria. Big sweeping counter hook by Candelaria as Nevin steps forward, missing and leaving Candelaria open to a looping right and left on either side of the throat. Jabs by Candelaria while circling away, getting hooked in the face. Push-in clinch by Candelaria.
