No, I don't mean "fragile" as in they have a weak chin. I mean fighters who constantly get hurt, whether in the ring or during training.
If your pushing yourself on the limit all of your adult life and often as you are developing in your teens you are going to get injured Everybody talks about the injury's they know about but i would like to bet that 50% of fighter have injury's that they can keep quiet . Once they are known about they can sometimes be managed in training camp and leading up to the fight My vote goes to Joe Calzages fragile hands or did he just have too much power !
Gotta put in some Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao up in here when we're talking about fragile fighters. Everyone knows he has fragile whiskers.
Joe had weak hands and was a solid puncher before they went. I've said it before, he was a special fighter to adapt his style to accommodate the problem imo. To not throw hard punches to save your hands throughout a fight and for years, shows what a thinking fighter he was. When you see pictures of Joe with his hand clenched for photo's you can see how damaged they are/were. They looked swollen from damage.
Carlos Monzon developed eventual issues with his hands that became a constant, Jeff Fenech also broke both his hands at least once, against Marcos Villasana.
I totally agree. Calzaghe changed his style due to hand problems and still had a great career. Used to get criticised for his style, but he had no choice to fight that way. Very intelligent fighter and a great engine.
I'd put joe in with any 12 stone fighter ever and expect him to win, maybe Jones might nick it, but prime Calzaghe was virtually impossible to beat. Great chin and too much stamina imo. Great fighter
