We have witneses a fight wich represents a throwback to the days of fighters like Tommy Loughran and Ezzard Charles from an unlikley source. When Zolt Erdei defeated Fragomeni he was probably giving up around 30 lbs in the ring. Erdei weighed less than Tommy Loughran did for most of his heavyweight fights. What do you think?
Erdei was surprisingly tough (he hasn't been in many tough fights) and pulled it off despite being badly fatigued. Fragomeni is not really a big 195+ pounder (only 5'9) and he doesn't punch hard but he did have an obvious strength advantage. I can only imagine how badly the fight would have gone to Erdei had he actually come in at around 190-200 pounds. He probably wouldn't have been able to stage the late rally that he did to win the decision.
Gragomoni was 40, 5'9, distinctly average and coming off a draw. Fighters give up weight all the time at HW, and in the lower weight divisions fighters like Mayweather/Barrera have been outweighed by 10-15lbs in the ring at lower weights
