Frampton closes in on Kiko Matinez fight
    http://www.irish-boxing.com/2012/03/...artinez-fight/

what do you make of this fight- Kiko smashed Bernard Dunne in 86 secs and as a result its a massive fight here in Ireland. Considering UK fight fans seen Munroe beat Kiko handy enough is it less appealing there?

I think its best fight out there for carl can't wait.

Didn't catch Martinez last fight but he looked very good against Booth and has seemed to develop his boxing a fair bit over the last couple years. It'll be very interesting to see how Frampton handles someone putting the pressure on him instead of the other way round, the guys he has fought so far have tried to box him off the back foot.

Massive test for Frampton if it comes of.

He's definitely improved alot since the Munroe fights, I have great interest in seeing it.

Matinez is now a much different (and better) fighter alright.

I think it's a real tough one. Hopefully he should just about come through it.
I could see Kiko doing a job on Quigg though.

Kiko made an interview on spanish tv yesterday, nothing was talked about Frampton. They said are in negotiations to fight Bakhtin in Russia for his EBU belt or Akifumi Shimoda in Japan on a ten rounder fight.

Kiko is the first opponent Frampton could fight that has a realistic chance of beating/KO'ing him.

If the odds are good I'll put decent money on Kiko here. Good fight and i hope it happens.

I think you'd throwing your money away mate, Carl has good whiskers im telling you, could see him beating Martinez on points in a hard fight, or even stopping him late, he does have the power!

Think Kiko would beat Quigg at the mo though, would be too soon for Scott, i do think Munroe will beat him too though...

It's the fight I wanna' see. Fair play to Frampton if it comes off. Martinez is worth ten fights against the opposition Frampton has been knocking over.

I imagine it'll be a good fight as well.

When it was first mooted, I confidently picked Martinez. Now I'm not so sure.

I thought Martinez would win based on Frampton's performance against Robbie Turley (think that's his name) where Frampton threw about 5 jabs in the whole fight. Neglecting to use the jab against someone who can control a fight to the level that Martinez can would be baaad news for the Jackal IMO. Carl's looked better though; sharper and more motivated, he's taking as much as he can from recent performances (though how much can you glean from knocking over a can?) so I think it's a pick em' now.

I'm tempted to pick Frampton by decision though, the likelyhood of Martinez breaking him down (which is how he wins IMO) is lesser than it appeared before.

I didnt see Martinez'z last fight, which was a rematch with Martirosyan. But from what ive read it was supposed to be something of a war, and Martinez struggled a bit. I watch their first fight on rte a couple of years ago and Kiko didnt have all that much trouble with Martirosyan back then. In fact he showed off some underrated boxing skills in their first encounter. Maybe Martinez has slipped a tiny bit over the last while? Or maybe not, who knows. Could be just one poor performance by him to.

I know some reports talked about lack of defensive skills on Kiko's side, but he showed more boxing skills against Martyrosian than ever before. He will not go on wild mode from the beggining, he start slow to increase the pace after six. He has more power than ever too, and really can´t see Frampton stopping him. A loss UD can be a possibility though. Frampton looks very good, but against poor rivals. Good fight and maybe the easiest for kiko if you think in Bakhtin and Shimoda, who are more experienced and very good boxers too.

I've not watched it yet but it's on youtube if you want to check it out :good

Surprised that Kiko is only 26, he's been around at Euro level for a while now. Think it's a fantastic fight for Frampton if it happens, I know Quigg is the big one every wants to see but it's not as if Quigg is taking on soft touches instead of fighting Frampton. He's got a real test against Munroe who's fringe world class.

I know people say Rendall's looked poor recently but IMO he's the kind of guy who fights at one pace regardless of who he's facing. He doesn't seem to step it up when he's facing someone who's a few levels below him.

Anyway, back on topic, with Quigg taking on Munroe Frampton can't do any better than fighting Martinez. Taking on Kiko with less than 15 pro fights is impressive.

There's been a number of threads regarding Frampton-Martinez over the last 12 months, i won't hold my breath.
