Frampton hits out at Sky Sports- claims the station is English biased. http://www.irish-boxing.com/2013/07/frampton-sky-sports-is-biased-toward-english-fighters/
“It was only the week before a fight I was getting good exposure, but before and after – nothing”. To be European Champion and to be boxing in front of an 8,000 sell out at the Odyssey Arena producing the best atmosphere that has been on a Sky TV show in I don’t know how many years and then to be told that you’re boxing on a Luke Campbell undercard – it’s not on and it’s a bit degrading to be honest. Luke Campbell is an Olympic Champion which is all well and good but he’s a four round debutant and I don’t intend to be boxing on undercards like that”. He's spot on here. Haven't seen Selby appear on Ringside since the week of his Blackpool undercard fight in April either. Correct that - I don't think Selby has actually been invited into the Ringisde studio at all. Frampton's gripes about Adam Smith's guestlist are pretty bang on the money.
Yep, Sky **** they're pants over the likes of Barker, Macklin and Brook but world class talents on the right side of 25 like Selby get dick. So short sighted Does selby own vocal chords?
Selby has been on ringside, they did a special on him. I also dont understand Luke Campbell getting top biliing on his pro-debut, theres too much pressure...Also im sure Brook V Jones would be a sell-out in Sheffield.
Barker isn't favoured by Sky anymore either in terms of ratings and now finds himself fighting abroad for a title. If he wins and comes back a world champ he'll be back in Adam Smith's good books again in terms of usefulness. As for Selby, he isn't complaining at the mo but realises it's not going the way he thought it would. He was told he'd be fighting in Cardiff on June 15th after the low key Rose undercard spot in April. Since then he's had no exposure and doesn't even feature as any kind of selling point for the Hull bill on Saturday when he's actually in a very decent fight there.
Outside of Northern Ireland nobody who is a casual fan will give a **** about Frampton. The viewing figures spoke for themselves.
Well i'm sure it's worked out for the best then Carl after you fight on a undercard in London you can get loads more exposure on Boxnation. But yeah lets face it you have to be some fighter to be foreign and a star on Sky Sports. Sky have a point for them to pay a lot of costs they want a good fight. But i wish Frampton the best. I remember the Hirales performance upsetting a few lads on here and even i wasn't really impressed and that was a big chance to impress a prime time audience on a big night.
He does raise a point, but SKY like any business will pander to were the most buisness/audience is and will always be a English centric ... do i like it ? well no but its just the way it was ...
He`s gone from a big Sky sports show where Campball is the nominal main event but also a big showcase for other talent and it was only for one fight while a big fight was going to be lined up in september to a Boxnation undercard with Derrick Chisora.I don`t see the problem with being on a show with 70000 people at the arena and Sky exposure so what Campball would of got the star treatment this time, the next time he fought would of been a big fight at the Oddessey and fighters like Campball could be on the undercard and he would be the undoubted star,if that didn`t occur he would have had cause for complaint.
