Just read an article where Carl has said he has started his sparring earlier for this fight so he is fitter. Also he says"I've brought my weight down and held it down a bit further out". Do you think making weight has become a problem for him like he mentioned after the last fight. At first I thought it was just an excuse for that bad first round but I'm beginning to wonder if there's some truth in it. I would have thought at this stage in his career he wouldn't need to be making changes like that and that each camp the weight would follow a similar trend. It also makes me wonder if the "quigg dedication" he keeps laughing at is playing on his mind a bit
I dont know. His in-ring weight is 131-133. As an educated guess I would put his 'normal between-fights walking-around' weight at about 140. Certainly not much above that.
No what I'm saying is when someone at world level enters a camp I personally would expect that they would have a template they would follow in regard to where they would be up to at certain points on the lead up to a fight. Surely at this level you don't start drastically changing your routine
Things change with time. Your body changes as it ages. Your routine must adapt to this. Your fears are groundless. Have no fear about Framptons preparation. I'm sure he knows his body a bit better than you do.
Surely, after struggling to make weight for his last fight, a change in routine is exactly what he needed to do? I'm not sure, though, that it was weight issues - he's 5' 4'' so can't balloon up too much. Maybe he'd got complacent? Either way - weight issues or complacency - he probably needed to take a look at how he prepares for fights and make changes for the better. It makes perfect sense to me.
Frampton really needs to try and stay at Junior Featherweight for as long as possible in my opinion. He really is a short guy at 5'4, but he has a muscular frame for the weight class - capped shoulders etc... If you watch his weigh-ins he comes in at exceptionally low body fat and I'd imagine making weight is difficult for him; but it's difficult for most fighters. Hope he can stay at 122 for a few more years before maybe going to Featherweight; but he shouldn't go as high as Super Featherweight in my opinion.
on talk sport alan brazil sayed steve bunce had sayed carl was having massive problems ,hadnt heard anything then seen this thread they asked ricky hatton who said hadnt heard ether but warned when cutting weight was harder to take body shots prob quiggs best punch ?
