I used to think that, until Quigg got dropped and hurt by a jab, and Frampton has been performing well recently. Frampton KO.
We felt the same watching live. Uninteresting performance. It looked to me like he had it under control, was picking the better punches and had defensively did okay, but his work-rate was severely lacking. There was a certain lack of intensity to the performance. Mexican seemed really strong but lacked accuracy, good beard on him too. End of the day Frampton won pretty well and can move on, could be that we underrated Hirales.
I felt his work was good enough and he won with ease without upping gears but my issue was how one paced it got. He was asked to up it and never really did. I think he could of displayed a bit more. Ie. stepping inside and breaking Hirales down to body. He sticks to plan well but fighting a guy who doesn't punch hard or fast i think he could of upped it and broke the kid down. Going 12 rounds is good, but they were one paced and one dimensional so there wasn't a great deal learned but i suppose fighting Martinez next it will help him mentally knowing he's been 12 and sticking to a plan. He will need to perform well against Martinez not only for the win but also to help his appeal to Sky and fans in general. Oh and BTW.. Frampton>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>McCloskey.
Jim Watt was contradicting himself throughout because Frampton wasn't "upping the tempo" I think Frampton realised before the fight that he can't get into a war with a brawler and that Hirales had a solid beard as soon as he started connecting and it didn't discourage Hirales.
Frampton did the business on Sat night, got 12 rounds under his belt and finished strongly. A stoppage late on would of been great but the important thing was getting the win and he did that quite easily. Give the lad a chance, he's only 14 fights into his pro carear. I think he's progressing very nicely.
To be fair, its the job of a promoter to hype a fighter to get him slots on major bills and get his name out there. Maybe he is going overboard, but its all part of the game.
Yeah he boxed well but it was very boring and not the excitement shown in previous fights. Not really the sort of fight you want as the main undercard, certainly didnt help to get me up for Frochy I was nearly falling asleep!
i'm sure i read somewhere that for the Belfast fight in September they'd be looking for a world title eliminator...
If the Martinez fight can't be made, then bring Martirosyan over to Belfast, he gave Martinez all he could handle.
No need being too harsh on Frampton he won easily enough against a decent opponent. (boring fight though) I still think Kiko Martinez would be a tough fight for him, could see Kiko winning by stoppage.
