I was rereading a boxing news from the other week. Hearn is talking about how he made the fight and how they all had to concede ground in the negotiations. Anyway the bit that shocked me was that he said whereas Quigg only payed him and his trainer Frampton has much higher outgoings, as much as 50% of his purse. Who else is on the payroll??
Strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists, probably PR people, then people working for mcguigan, it all adds up.
I didnt see this myself. Was Hearn implying Team Frampton was foolish with money or something? Or was he just stating facts with no agenda?
I think Eddie Hearn was mainly implying the extra costs included payments to his advisor Al Haymon and Al Haymon's team. In addition, Cyclone Promotions as Frampton's promoters, Barry McGuigan as his Manager, Shane McGuigan as trainer, maybe a nutritionist, maybe a strength & conditioning coach etc etc.
He didn't necessarily mean foolish but do think he was implying that he overpays by a lot. What is Shane if he's not a strength and conditioning coach? I wondered if meant Barry's other sons were on the payroll. Things like PR etc mentioned should be part of the management responsibilities.
Dont forget the man saying all this was negotiating 'against' team Frampton and there was a lot of hard words in the run-up to this fight.... Also his man lost the fight too. So its not like Hearn is completely impartial here, is it? Another way of looking at this is that perhaps if Quigg had spent a bit on some top-level help he might have done a bit better in the ring.....
It's the "top level" help I was questioning. He's being overcharged if that figure is right. He is the one making weight, training, moving away from his family, taking the punches etc yet others are making a helluva lot of money off his back. I see this about Haymon. But what did he do to put this fight together, I thought he was just involved in the U.S. Fights? Isn't Barry his manager. I'm not pro quigg or anti Frampton just seems very excessive to me.
What do Barry's other kids do, are they involved? Shouldn't their cut come from the standard management cut rather than as an extra service?
Hearn seems to divulge a lot of information that doesn't affect him- this and the Channel 5/Hennessy situation spring to mind. I wonder what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot so to speak?
Say what you want about Hearn but I can't recall a fighter speaking badly of him. Doesn't have the skeletons in his closet that the others do.
