Well he hadn't been getting a good deal considering he is paying the whole mcguigan family's wages, Barry was the one that talked him out of matchroom and barry never let hearn speak to frampton directly, the way eubank snr didn't let hearn speak to junior, thats why he ended up leaving matchroom.
Frampton & Co shafted themselves by not having a rematch clause in the Santa Cruz rematch contract. This is a huge mistake and not one that you could imagine Eddie Hearn making if Frampton were still with him. They also took the fight in Vegas again when they were in the driving seat and could have held out for Belfast. Very poor business and planning.
Very true, this is issue with having friends or family in key positions who do not have the business accumn to carry out the role correctly. Barry is too emotional and does not think like a calculated businessman the example you give about the rematch clause is the perfect example. He would have been all bluster my boy will win again he's he best thing since slice bread instead of likes of Eddie Hearn who would have demanded the insurance policy of rematch clause. Also if he stayed with Hearn he would have got more of his Quigg PPV money for himself and Eddie would have put on a stronger undercard which makes more buys and those involved more money. Remember the McGuigans refused a big budget for the undercard and my understanding was sales were poor compared to other Sky ppvs
Eddie has already said a couple of times he wants to work with Frampton. I think Carl would be foolish to go anywhere else.
He could as frampton will still be grateful to Barry and shaine for the roles they paid in him being the boxer he is now and out of every other promotional company the mcguigans would be content with anyone but eddie hearn as it may feel like sticking the knife in eventhough its the best choice financially and boxing wise.
If, is true, instead of a rematch clause with LSC there was a unification with Selby sorted, then that's ridiculously short sighted. Nothing wrong with being confident, but that's borderline arrogant. When he lost to Santa Cruz, what did he expect? To walk into another massive PPV seller? No doubt he could have sold Windsor Park ten times over, but I don't know who he expected. There's loads of rumour and conjecture here in Belfast about the circumstances of the split...'my aunties cousins hairdressers postmans son is best mates with Carl's dad and he said...', that kind of nonsense. It'll probably come out eventually, but I can't see it being mud slinging.
He wouldnt have had the opportunity to even train somebody like Frampton his last name not been McGuigan.
I agree wholeheartedly with that. Whatever has happened Shane should always be grateful to Carl as without Carl he wouldn't be training the calibre of fighters he is and has trained. I must say the did look a good team though I agree the lack of tactics in second LSC fight was alarming but that goes two ways as Carl needs to share blame there too (I actually think if he's fighting an opponent who is throwing and landing so much he needs to up his own output or will always struggle in such situations).
Agree. A lot of general public might not like Eddie Hearn but the fighters who work with him genuinely do. You always here them talk of how he fights to get them best deal looks after them and is homourable. Should be noted he doesn't take fighters leaving him personally, look at paydays he has gave Derry Mathews after he left him for frank and even recently donated £5000 to Derrys initiative to help disabled kids through boxing (which is fantastic), and now he's giving Stalker who also left him for Frank a nice wee payday.
