Is such a long camp a good idea? I was always led to believe that between 6-10 weeks was best.

    Well that's a tad excessive.

A boxer should be training all the time. Just like any other full time pro athlete ...soccer players, tennis etc.
OK maybe not the heavy duty stuff 365, dieting & sparring etc - but at least going for a run every day.

The British are different beasts when it comes to training, just look at the physiques of AJ, DeGale, Kell Brook, Tyson Fury, Frampton, etc. It's reflected in the world leading number of world champions this tiny island has produced. Absolutely phenomenal. I have no doubts in my mind that Carl 'The Jackal' Frampton is going to bring yet another world title back to the Great British shores. God bless Elizabeth.

Didn't he put his relative lethargy against Quigg down to overtraining?

Risky if it's a fully intensive camp, if it's a few weeks of getting in to the swing of things and taking it lightly it won't be much of an issues...

Well since he's moving up to Feathweight maybe he's using the time to responsibly bulk himself up and adjust to his new weight, 4 pounds is quite a lot when you're usually 122 pounds and 5'5.

I am pretty sure he will have scheduled breaks in that camp.

Something like 4-5 weeks of camp then a break to see family. I am sure that will keep him rested and psychically sharp and more importantly mentally switched on because long camps can become so boring, it very hard for any trainer to keep things interesting for that long.

Boxers should live the life. Other athletes train every single day, year round. They are always fit. Even some amateur hobby 'keep fit' types train every day - for fun. There is really no excuse. I go to my job every day - so do most 'ordinary people'. Whats so different about boxers. they should be in shape all the time, 365. Its boring? So what...so are most jobs...boo hoo, get over it. Its hard? - so is the daily grind for everyone else.....

overdoing it for a fighter who will be on weight and great shape after a 4-6 week camp.

He could easily peak early and it only goes down from there...body fatigues, focus is hard to maintain. It would just feel like waiting around.

Are you seriously comparing being a fighter/world champion to say some woman working in Asda behind a counter 5 days a week?

You sound seriously bitter you have to get up and go to work

Firstly, I'm sorry you don't have a job to go to. Also some "ordinary" people are super fit, and some boxers are not fit at all. ( yes, probably ever some Asda staff)!

    But you are misunderstanding me.

Training "camps" are over rated. A boxers whole life should be s training camp. This business of guys letting themselves go in between fights and spending time shedding fat etc is ridiculous. Other sports don't have this problem.

I reckon he and his professional team know whats best.

Most of these top pros these days are never out of the gym anyway. They may ease up on the diet, d back the intensity etc after a fight, but the top guys are probably in the gym 6 out of 7 days anyway.
