I posted something similar on another thread but I was so impressed with his performance on Saturday. Surprised there hasn’t been much said on here, he’s one of our most skilful fighters in the UK. He faded against Garcia after a great start, blowing out of his backside by the mid rounds. He looked in really good condition against a fighter who kept him working. He’s very efficient with shots though, he hardly wastes one. Really like his footwork and speed, and that straight right is mint. Who would we like to see him go up against next...Valdez, the winner of Selby-Warrington...Gary Russell Junior?
I'd love to see the Valdez fight, that kid can punch but he's wide & too predictable for Frampton IMO. I'd take the Selby-Warrington winner to be fair. Russel Jr's speed might give him some early headaches but Frampton has the jab, timing, distance control & experience to adjust against Russell Jr & that could be a great fight. Donaire has lost some speed but is still dangerous, I thought Frampton handled him really well, a few uppercuts tested him but I thought Frampton gave him different looks & dictated the fight. Very good performance.
I still think he deserves a rematch with santa cruz. A fight with valdez makes sense and is very winnable but I think frank will look to make Frampton vs the Selby/warrington winner
Thought he was on the slide That ain't a prime donaire as said i want to see him in with quiggs last opponent Valdez
There’s a lovely clip on bbc boxing podcast of Donaire and Frampton talking to each other after the fight. Donaire is a classy fella.
He did box well but it has to be viewed in the context of where Donaire is in his own career -- which is at the end / on the slide and at a weight well above where he was a lb4lb contender. I think he beats Valdez though and hope he gets the LSC rematch.
Watched that on Sunday morning with a lump in my throat, really touching stuff. Same goes to Dodd and Coyle on the Matchroom card. Coyle hit the nail on the head when he said you can build a fight up and put a great show for the fans without trash talking.
Very good performance against Donaire. He should leave LSC at 1-1. I really wouldn’t fancy him winning a 3rd fight, not win the way he was handled with ease last time-I’m sure Carl knows that deep down. I would love to see the Valdez fight.
it was a very good performance from Frampton, and i was most impressed by his discipline and sticking to the gameplan. Yes, Donaire is shot and a shadow of the his former self, but, as he showed in the 5th i think it was and the last two rounds, he was still very dangerous, as Carl admitted, Donaire hurt him in the 11th.
Ideally if he can safely make the weight I would like to see him at Super Bantam again. I agree with all of Twentys points. I was really impressed with Frampton, in many ways best I have ever seen him. Footwork, range, shot selection, jab, variety were all world class. His fitness was best I have ever seen it too. He was too powerful when up close in clinches, but against a guy however good that still started at flyweight. Would Frampton beat Selby? I certainly do not think so. Selby also has great control of distance and a world class jab, but big advantage he would have is reach. Also up close he would be too strong for Carl. Valdes I would give Carl a change again but I would have Valdes fav. Carl seems to lack punch power at featherweight. If he used the skills and qualities he showed at weekend which were great and could go down a weight he would clean up (Not that he will go down in weight).
I think we’ll see Valdez at Windsor Park in August. He seems to have given up on any rematch with LSC for now, and he does have a point in that he travelled to the US twice to fight him, but you can blame Cyclone for that. He’s used Rory McIlroy’s conditioning coach for this camp and his conditioning was far better. Rather than gassing in the 11th when Donaire tagged him a few times, it seems to me that’d he’d just lost concentration. Donaire is a class act though. He spent a lot of time with kids at the club he was training at when he was over. Know a couple of people who bumped into him and said he was such a nice guy.
I broadly agree with all your points...( and 20s). Carl's biggest problem is outgrowing 122 while being too small for 126. Pound for pound and inch for inch he is better than Quigg and selby, but at feather these guys are simply too big for him. He was an absolute monster at 122, knocking em all out, no prob. But the kos have dried up at 126. Carl is a little guy. Has he ever faced an opponent he wasn't looking up at? I would see him having trouble with selby...although after seeing how well he boxed against Donaire I wouldn't be as quick as I might have been previously to rule Carl out against Lee. Remember too we have to see how Lee will look against Warrington. Lee has been killing himself to make weight at 126 and it just might catch up with him one day. Let's hope that day comes in Windsor park v Frampton!
Couple of things I found interesting Len, one Carl's not on the slide as he previously looked it (great stuff), and secondly he said he us now doing scientific traini g which he's never done before and is fitter as a result. I thought Shane McGuigan was very new age and scientific in his training ? Maybe not after all.
Personally I never thought he was on the slide, but anyway... I wonder has he cut out the heavy powerlifting he used to do with ShaneMC? Lifting twice his bodyweight etc. Never saw the point in that stuff. Also with a proper modern 'scientific' approach to diet (as i sit here eating chocolate!) I still say Carl should be able to make 122 IF he is willing to make the effort.
Think by sounds of it he could do but I doubt he wants to make the sacrifices, plus more big fights at 126. But he would do much better st 122. I have to admit he Was a joy to watch the other night Len, though I was nervous he might get taken out when Donaure landed big shots. At one point think in 7th Carl held rope to help keep him up and ref missed it. I thought Jamie zmoores tactics were spot on as they were for Coyle.
