Unfortunately, and sadly, Damiani was cursed with a surname that destined him to be severely underrated, historically:

Damiani feasted on pastries in the all you can eat Italian smorgasborg. Joe Louis would've been just another pastry in that buffet in the career of one Francesco Damiani...

 

Damiani was a decent boxer with good all around skills. However, if he had the misfortune of facing a prime Joe Louis, he wouldn't last long. I don't think Damiani would even be Louis' 10th best opponent.
