Francesco Damiani vs. Gerry Cooney

Fights against FD and Tex Cobb were the fights Cooney needed before he took on Holmes or Weaver. Gerry never went past 8 rounds and neither Cobb nor FD could have hurt him and they were durable.

If the fight goes the distance, it's a gain of knowledge and a confidence stamina builder mentally and if he ko a durable guy it's a win win, either way you get something and move on better equipped mentally and physically.

 

Agree with everything you say. Except Francesco Damiani and Cobb did have a decent punch. Still wouldn’t favor them over Cooney though

Damiani very underrated these days

 

While both had decent power, Cobb was slow and without snap, Damiani was decent with some better defense than Tex.

IMO Gerry could with his defensive skill set and power get past both but may get in the extra rounds. He needed to go past 8 rounds his highest even 10 or 12 before fighting 15, I think it would have helped his confidence before fighting Holmes..

 

Cooney would probably get to him in the later rounds. He was more physical and punched harder. Damiani was better at scoring points, but Cooney was decent at boxing.
