Jon Jones vs Gane is for the vacant UFC HW title now. Guessing Francis priced himself out, doesn't work for the company anymore.
It’s not a great look for the UFC. Fighters are more educated now and have a better idea of their value. Other MMA organisations are willing to be more equitable with the upside now too. UFC are unique in that the brand is so strong itself. They sell out worldwide before the card is announced, and pay the fighters c17% of revenue which is unheard of. I hope Jones wins the fight but hard to see past the bigger and more active Gane who is a great athlete. Looking forward to seeing Jones at HW but think that horse has bolted by now
I'm sure it's fixed to look that way Francis left ungrateful. As for all the time UFC insists was offering him a contract, the golden chicken, the pulsating steroid eye poker, the judges favorite - Jones was gaining weight, while the weight he needed for the division is to be achieved within a year by a professional athlete. Now the danger of beating the "great" Jones is less, as Ngannou is out. UFC is a pro wrestling federation, but with poor salaries, I've been saying that for about 10 years. The only chance of Gane or anyone else winning over Jones is a knockout. In any other case, Jones will be given a decision, as usual.
I agree with a lot of this all but “given” are you implying Jones doesn’t just dominate and take a UD?
It was never about the money, Francis wanted to venture out into things such as boxing and other sports, the UFC simply denied it as they get no such profit from that and do not want a Conor repeat of holding up the division while making money else where.
I mean, I get it, but the UFC isn't like boxing, they're trying to make it more of a professional sport than a business. Dana claimed that he offered Francis the biggest contract in MMA HW history, bigger than Stipe, Cain or even Brock Lesnar. It's cool if Francis wanted to expand his business ventures, but wtf is he gonna do now? Fight for peanuts at ONE Championship? Fight celebrities in freak show fights or try his luck in the movie industry?
Ngannou has options to make a lot more money in boxing than in UFC, he can fight Fury, Wilder and Joshua in a real fight but for no belts and will sell a lot of PPV's. He can easily make over 9 figures.
Anyone think Francis should try to fight someone like a Chisora or Joe Joyce before he really tries to challenge Fury? I don't see him beating Fury at all but I want to see how he does against one of the higher tier heavyweights.
Ngannou may have power in his punches, but has poor cardio, unimpressive ring IQ and not good cardio. He'll struggle even against the old Chisora, I'm sure Joyce will knock him out, Fury possibly too, but even if he doesn't will make him pathetic. Actually, a lot of people from top 20 will joke with Francis. I don't even see him such an impressive MMA fighter.
Jones is too small, Gane hits far harder than anyone Jones has fought thus far and is too big for Jones on the floor, if he takes Jones down the fights over, only advantage Jones has is his reach.
Joyce is a far better boxer than Ngannou, he won a silver medal at the olympics and has the chin to take Ngannou`s power, he also throws better combos and has a higher work rate than anyone Francis has fought, he`ll throw more punches than Francis has ever seen in the cage, UFC figts are shorter than full distance world title boxing matches, there`s no way Francis will go the distance v Joyce at the pace Joyce fights at. Joyce is far better than Chisora.
I don't dispute that Joyce is the better boxer but it was Joyce himself after sparring Francis complimented him on his power at least: “I sparred Ngannou before the Dubois fight, he’s a big, powerful unit. It was a good experience to spar him,” Joyce told GiveMeSport. “He’s a freak of nature. He’s got phenomenal power. Most of the time I was trying to get away from those power shots to avoid getting my head taken off.” Ngannou has a great chin as well and has literally shaken off heavy blows to his head from 4oz gloves.
On 4th March Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane is gonna happen. I also don't like this move of UFC but still, they both are good fighters. They both are amazing in their own way. Now just waiting for the fight.
