Francisco Vargas vs. Will Tomlinson, 10 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Vargas is the reigning & defending North American (NABF) and WBO International junior lightweight champion.

I'm not exactly sure how Tomlinson, who is from & still resides in Australia, is qualified to compete for the North American title, but whatever... :huh

 

Round 1

Vargas is bouncing around on the outside, scoring hard quick jabs up top. Vargas hops in and they both land simultaneous left hooks on the face, Vargas firing as the ***** of his feet touch down on the canvas and Tomlinson swiveling into his with his legs already firmly planted. They land with about equal force. Vargas is popping in and landing his 1-2. Tomlinson is buzzed and holding on. The entire left side of Tomlinson's face is pink from the punches of Vargas. Quick jabs by Vargas. Tomlinson holds. Vargas blocks and leans forward as Tomlinson doubles a left hook into his neck. Jab and chopping right by Vargas as they close together. Uppercut on the body by Vargas as Tomlinson shoeshines up top. Vargas lands a left hook while Tomlinson is bowling in a two-fisted underhanded body combo stepping in, leaving himself wide open.

Round 2

Vargas is rocking Tomlinson with right hands shot up from a partial crouch and then bashing him with heavy left hooks that spin his face around sharply. Tomlinson not reacting well to Vargas' power, but hanging in there, mentally tough. Tomlinson falls in atop Vargas and throws some hooks of his own, most getting swiped aside on the back of Vargas' right glove as the left comes pounding into Tomlinson's chin in the form of short counter left hooks. Tomlinson is DETERMINED, staying inside even as Vargas tattoos him with crisp 1-2s on the forehead and hard body shots up close. Tomlinson squats in front of Vargas after slapping a hooking combo on the backs of his fists, and eats a 1-2, knees slightly buckling. Tomlinson steadies himself and circles to his right. Tomlinson moves in, holds, and flurries on the body. Tomlinson is going for broke with hail-Mary uppercuts downstairs. Vargas is ducking and weaving landing left hooks and looping rights on the head.

Not to mention speed & skill...but Tomlinson's earning respect.

 

After this loss, I'd like to see Tomlinson go home and beat the snot outta Billy Dib. :thumbsup
