Two shot old forty-somethings will duke it out in Bata, Equatorial Guinea on February 5th on the undercard of some nobody vs. some other nobody with no TV coverage.

(I take it back - David Avanesyan is message board famous after rumors that he gave Chris Eubank Jr. a hard time in sparring; while Charles Manyuchi is the reigning African Boxing Union welterweight champ! Hardly nobodies...)

Both used to be semi-serious contenders, and later respectable journeymen, known for being reasonably tough and heavy-handed. Combined they now have 35 losses, 21 of those by stoppage. They are, since the summer of 2011, a combined 4-20 (3).

At stake here, on top of whatever meager pittance they're milking from this, is pushing one W nearer the 50 mark. Botha could put himself just one away, Williams three.

Both really need to retire. Hopefully the loser does so, while the winner is going to inevitably be further motivated. :!:

Botha although WAY past his prime is still fairly cagey, He went nearly 11 with Takam in 2012, then went the distance with Pianeta in the same year... In 2013 he exposed SBW, and with a non-crooked ref/officials would have gotten the win and the stoppage. No shame in getting blasted out in 2 by Parker(Who has a good future in the division) and he even troubled, and nicked a few rounds from Wawrzyk before being stopped in the 5th. Compare that to Williams/Wawrzyk which was non-competitive and ended in the first round. In short Botha is still a game journeyman, and Williams is dangerously shot. Both need to retire, but that probably won't be happening. My pick is Botha, probably by knockout.

Botha, Danny has been KO'd too many times for me to keep track of, even a shot Francois will probably get him out of there. I remember seeing Botha for the first time fighting Moorer on the undercard of Holyfield Tyson when I was 16, 18 years ago :-( these guys really should be forced to retire at this point.

That was before he morphed into Buzzsaw from The Running Man in the 2000's.

  4. Is this fight real?! YES!!!!!

Botha had a lead on Evander and Mike when the fights ended and was beating Grant before running outta gas

He did look like jumped outta the ring vs Lewis though

Williams was a top British level guy beating Harrison and Skelton and has nice wins over Tyson and Meehan but it's crazy to see him eclipse 20 losses

He's no great but he shouldn't have gotten to rock bottom

What the?... I was told this was happening at York Hall in Jan, was thinking about going. :yep

I've seen Danny in person recently, he looks barley any different from 10 years ago, watching him box on these Eurosport shows is painful though, I've never seen a boxer so depleted, he can barley stand after throwing a hook. :-( Even as little back as 2011, he was giving Charr a tough fight, it's crazy how much he's dropped since that.

Frans, despite looking much older, is not completely shot, the SBW fight was disgraceful, an outright robbery... I've seen the Parker beat down but not his last fight, one card had him ahead at the time of the stoppage so I imagine he's still not completely wasted.

Saying all that, I don't encourage this bout at all and hope it gets canceled for the good of both guys health, let's say this was 2002' though, this would be a potential FOTY candidate, Williams-Maskaev around that time would have been great too.

...which is nineteen percent less than could point out "Bata, Equatorial Guinea" on the map.
