I think Tyson of 96 would beat an 89 Bruno even more convincingly
Bruno of 89 was knocked down off Tyson in the first 10 seconds - if 96 Tyson did that I think he would go all out to stop Bruno bearing in mind in 96 Tyson may of had doubts of his own stamina.
Plus Bruno of 96 would have been much better prepared for Tyson after just becoming champion and showing, finally, an ability to hang of when pressed from his previous fight against McCall.
I would say MCCall would have beaten a 1989 Bruno

    "Better prepared for Tyson"?!
Because being ludicrously bulked-up, lethargic, past-prime & absolutely scared-to-death would make him better prepared, right?

Bruno would never ever beat Tyson, (maybe he could beat the fat bald one though?) he would look good for 2-3 rounds and then the Tyson barrage begins to take affect.

On another note Tyson looked crap both in 89 and 96. He looked god awful in 96
IMO he look awful against Mcneeley as well....and Mathis

But no, all ppl saw were the KOS and not the ring rust. No wonder everyone picked him to beat Holyfield

    Watch the Mcneeley fight
Mcneeley has Tyson abcked up against the ropes swinging away.

and the biggest farce of all
is that during the Mathis fight....at the bottom of the screen it says

"Number One Contender for WBA/WBC Title" (or soemthing like that!)

After one pathetic fight Tyson is suddenly the number one challenger?

Don King should hang his head in shame, Tyson should have at least had about 5-6 fights before Holyfield

Holyfield was thought to be shot to pieces and was just a "name" for Tyson to beat on.

Evander was thought to be finished after gassing so badly and getting stopped by Bowe and he looked like **** against the smaller Bobby Czyz.

King and co all thought Holyfield would be high paying fodder for Mike as did the vast majority of the boxing world. It wasn't as if Mike after 4 fights in 12 months needed further tune ups for a guy who couldn't put away Czyz and was already 34 and a veteran of umpteen ring wars.

Nobody knew that Holyfield had that much left or was as great as we all now know he was.To say otherwise is just revisionism.

    Agreed. :good

He also should have had a quality trainer from the start of his comeback following his 4 years rotting, not just after he lost to Holyfield.
It was the same crap all over again, when he lost to Douglas, they finally got Giachetti to train him instead of Snowell.
When he lost to Holyfield, Giachetti was hired back to replace Bright as head trainer.

Also, Tyson should have fought someone tough & challenging like Mercer or Tua, before facing Evander.
However, knowing how hard Tyson trained for the rematch & seeing the outcome, I don't think Tyson would have ever been mentally strong enough to beat Holy post-prison.

I see young griffo's point though, Holy was widely considered to be washed-up & many people thought he would only last a round or two.
Fact is that Evander had hepatitis in Bowe III & '95 Bowe beats any post-prison Tyson.

I think a lot of that had to do with Tyson himself. King worked very hard to line up the titles for Tyson and thats primarily the reason Tyson returned to King. Tyson was the one who most likely wanted the title shots right away because of who held them at the time. I think if the titles were held by Lewis, Mcall, and maybe Mercer, Tyson might not have gone to a title fight after McNeeley and Mathis, who were complete jokes as tuneups. He most likely wouldnt have signed with King again either.

Its too bad Mcall didnt beat Bruno, because Tyson would have fought for the WBC title first and would have known he was going to go rounds with Oliver, and probably would have prepared better. Tyson probably thought he could come out of jail and beat Seldon Bruno and Moorer without any tuneups. They were all very soft in their own ways.

you are spot on correct. bruno made 96 tyson look good in the knock out reel. tyson had poor timing, sloppy random telegraphed punches, and looked rusty as hell from inactvity.

Yessss! I agree Tyson also looked bad against Stewart even though that wasn't a hard fight for him. He slid from throwing a wild hook landing right on his bottom. I know he wanted to get to the top quick but he just looked bad, bad. Bert Sugar said it best when he said things sinilar to this, "He's gonna be Rusty Mike", "There's no boxing rings in his prison".

I'd actually give the 1989 version of Bruno a serious shot at beating the Tyson of 2002 and beyond.

id go even further id give 89 bruno a serious chance of beating tyson anytime after 97 if botha could outbox tyson so could bruno tyson was flat footed and lacked stamina by then if mike never got you out inside 4 rounds he was in trouble .

I did, to remind people that he was fat like a blimp & shot-to-pieces back in '01, becuase i'm sick of people sighting '02 as the first year Tyson was shot. That zombie-like performance against Nielson should have been enough to tell everyone that Tyson was too horrifically shot to make a real "Superfight" with Lewis.
