Just reading Steve Bunces book on British boxing history. In it he tells the well known story of the 19 year old Frank going to Columbia for a eye operation in order to gain his pro boxing licence. What got me interested was Bunce goes on to state that there is an ‘ alternative ‘ story as to why Frank went to Columbia but that tale could never be printed! Can anyone shed some light on this? I have never heard of any rumours but Bunce will of herd many more boxing stories than I have.
Yeah, there was a bit about it in Bruno's own book. Whether it was the reason he went there, I don't know, but he fell in with a cartel and in some way "signed" with them he was going to be represented by a Colombian drug cartel Different career. He basically agreed to everything they said, hopped on a plane for home and never heard from them ever again.

Since this is my field, I'll weigh in that it's possibly true. Bruno would've been 19 around the end of the 70s/ start of the 80s. There was a really shitty precursor to Lasik called radial keratectomy that existed back then. It wasn't really done in the US until later in the 80s and I have no idea if it was ever allowed in the UK. So yes, it seems possible.
