Ive been thinking for awhile on how will Frank Brunos legacy? will he be ranked as a top heavyweight ATG? im just not sure, he was a idol in britian and with a great Ko% , but just looking through his resume there not to many huge names with W next to them, jus curious on how you guys view Frrank Bruno? and what his legacy will be?
Ahh i think your right, he did win the world title, jus never had that killer edge, i guess when ever you mention bruno the 2 tyson fights will come into mind
He gave Tyson and Lewis plenty to worry about in their fights for how long they lasted, I don't think his record does his performances justice. Under rated by most in my opinion. To say he's a loser or not world class isnt right. His book is very good too, I'm sure it would change opinions on him, trained very hard, said he ran 50 miles a week, amazing if he's telling the truth. But he did still seem to have stamina problems, must be that bulk.
Not enough names on his resume...biggest wins are Gerrie Coetzee and Oliver McCall...got destroyed 2 times by Tyson and lost to Lewis...
He probably scrapes into a list of the top 40 HW's of all time. Frank was a handful for anyone. He stuns Tyson at the end of the first round of their fight. But for a man with such a high K.O percentage....sometimes seemed to lack killer instinct, or indeed a back up plan if he was hit back. Shame.
I agree about todays heavies. I don't think I'm over hyping him, I'm not saying he was the best boxer but he had good fundamentals aswell as the strengths already mentioned.
bruno was a b level fighter, b+ if you're generous. belongs in the top 15 of the 80s and 90s. atg wise top 50.
Didn`t do too badly considering his bypolar disorder. The guy had a depressive illness,so before anyone mocks him there you have it.
I thought he was better than he's being given credit for. He had one of the best HW jabs of the era and was without question one of the most crushing punchers. Just not particularly versatile, and his durability would always be a concern against fellow punchers.
Frank was a very good fighter. Not great, but very good. On top of that he's a top bloke and loved by pretty much everyone in the UK. It's sad how his illness has affected him but he's fought it well and seems to be coming out the other side. As previously stated, he lacked that killer instinct to finish people off, perhaps lacking a ruthless nasty streak. He got stopped very late on a number of occasions when winning on points also. People forget but he gave Lewis serious problems whish says a lot. I forget which round he lost in, think i was the 8th, but he was winning on points before getting TKOd. Besides Klitschko,no other boxer was able to give Lewis so many problems. All in all, an underrated, loveable and very good fighter.
he gave lewis some problems, but no way he was winning the fight before getting stopped. he won two or three rounds but lewis, on my card, was clearly ahead.
