With each and ever post I take you less and less seriously....
McCall was whacking hell out of Bruno right till the bell how did he 'let' Bruno win?

Bruno with a good set of lungs, heart when facing Tyson and durability. Would have liked to see that guy in the ring.

Foreman would crush him as well, Louis too. Imagine Frank at the staredown against those guys.

Bruno had respectable power, a very fine (albeit robotic) jab, decent fundamentals. He fell short in the following categories, though: inability for the most part to clinch or fightback when hurt, his movement was very stiff: the hallmark of a manufactured fighter, in addition his stamina was suspect and he lacked a killer instinct when he had an opponent hurt.

Dude, Bruno was dead tired. Watch the final rounds. Also, how can you say Bruno had a good set of lungs vs Tyson, as he never made it into the later rounds?

I think you've mis-read my post bud. I didn't say that about Bruno - Tyson.

I've watched the Bruno-McCall fight a couple of times. Bruno was tired but so was McCall and McCall was still trying to Knock Bruno on his ass, everyone can see that.

I don't think it wouldn't have made any difference if he had better stamina or even durability (in reality his punch resistance wasn't bad, just the fact he took too many big shots once stunned) in terms of facing Tyson, he lacked more important instincts when up against that class of fighter. Big Frank was always taylor made for the likes of a Tyson to chop down. He might have lasted a bit longer, but the devestating stoppage deafeat was always going to come. That's probably stating the obvious, though to be fair.

I see you have had issues with several posters in the general forum. We try to keep the flaming down to a minimum here. Let's just agree that McCall was tired. I think McCall was a fool in more than one fight. He nearly let an old Larry Holmes box his way to victory. And then he cried vs Lewis.

I think another problem with Bruno, is that he had too many long lay-offs after a defeat, and fought too many poor opponents before another title shot.

I can understand him having a rest from time-to-time, but he hadn't fought for 16 months since beating Joe Bugner when he fought Tyson the first time, (Tyson had only gone 8 months). Bruno then didn't fight again until late 1991, when he knocked out a Dutch model with little more than a couple of jabs.

After that, I only remember him fighting the likes of Pierre Coetzer, and Carl Williams before fighting Lennox Lewis. Okay, Pierre and Carl each gave him several good rounds, but neighter really put him in much difficulty.

After the Lewis fight, I don't think Frank had any decent opponents until he fought Tyson again.

So he was always ill-prepared for title fights, fought too many poor opponents, and had too much time out of action.

I think if he'd stayed more active, just had a few months out now and again, and had tougher tune-up fights against oppontents who'd basically bash him back and make him fight, then he'd have been a better fighter. He didn't get that chance to develop instinct.

I think opponents like Ray Mercer would have been better for him, and possibly a re-match with Tim Witherspoon.

So in short, Frank was allowed to decay too much between big fights.

I mostly agree, but good stamina means you move around more, and in theory keep your hands and defense sharp to defend against big shots. Stamina also means you more likely to recover from a big shot. So stamina matters, and pretty much is a factor in all ring activities on offense, defense, and strategy. Fighters with suspect stamina are open to TKO's even if their chin is decent.

Issues are created when people stir **** for the hell of it. When people come out with opinions and state them as fact. I have issues with the morons on this site, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but thanks for pointing that out bud, it had to be done.:good

Back to point why don't you start a thread titled 'McCall let Bruno win' and see where it gets you.

Terry Lawless was very cautious about matching Bruno ,after the scare against Cummings he became allmost paranoid.Bruno was very carefully matched .Mickey Duff's book is very good on the subject of Bruno.

I believe Boxing Fan was speaking theoretically ,ie IF Bruno had possessed those attributes ,the fight would have been something to see .At least thats how it read to me.

Bruno did tire down the stretch against McCall, but he hung on. What people forget is Bruno hurt the ironed chin McCall early and put him in a shell.

Bruno gets seriously underrated, HUGE puncher 1 of the biggest ever, lovely jab but was let down by stamina down the stretch and freezing like Wladdy boy today. Tyson and Lewis were too much for him but take the '89 Bruno into a time machine to 2005-2008 and he'd be the dominant HW today.

As you read i give Bruno a lot of credit, but he'd never be a dominant HW. Just too frail.

Disagree here. I think Wlad is a better fighter than Bruno was, plus I think Vitali would have Bruno in a world of trouble.
