Frank Bruno Tommy 'The Duke' Morrison Height 6"3 6"2 Reach 82" 76" Weight 235lbs 225lbs An interesting matchup from the 90s i would like your predictions on. Two good fighters who struggled at the elite level of the h/weight division. Both had strong attributes and were a danger to most, but their weaknesses made them stall at the very top. Bruno with his mostly underrated ramrod jab and booming right hand. Morrison's vaunted left hook, decent head movement and underrated boxing skills. Boths mens achilles heel was percieved to be there whiskers. Either chin was'nt of the tungsten variety that's for sure, but i feel they were better than giving credit for. IMHO It took a big shot to put them in trouble, and then usually a good few more to finish them. eg, Bruno v Tyson - Bruno v Lewis - Morrison v Mercer - Morrison v Bentt . All brutal stoppages, Bruno was actually still on his feet after both. Bruno's main problems were a major stamina issue, and freezing when hurt and his inability to hold on and cover up. Morrison's problem was that his over eagerness usually got him into trouble in the first place and then when he was in trouble, he chose to fire back rather than survive which then led to disaster. It's a match up i always fancied because of their similar stature and the guaranteed fireworks! Both men i'm sure you'll agree were strong top ten contenders in there time, both with fantastic punching power and an air of vulnerability. Also they always came to compete(excluding Tyson V Bruno 2 lol). So yeah your predictions and why please, on this intriguing heavyweight tussle. One thing is for certain it won't go the distance! :!:
Bruno by stoppage. The '89 Bruno would KO Morrison within two rounds. Note: Morrison had stamina issues too.
Personally, I think Morrison would KO Bruno inside of 9 rounds if he boxed smart like he did against George Foreman, until Bruno gases out like he's done before. I think Bruno is stronger, though probably not by a ton more, but Tommy'll probably get through the early rounds easily despite Bruno's strength.
It was easy to "box smart" (run) against the sloth-slow '93 comeback Foreman. Bruno showed more impressive boxing ability in the first 6 rounds against Lewis in '93.
Yeah good point, this version of Morrison would stand a far greater chance of winning. Bruno did have decent basics about him though.
I agree with this but i would also say Tommy had superior handspeed to Frank. Frank the better jab and reach. Both did have good boxing ability though.
Interesting matchup..... don't close your eyes I'd go for Bruno, purely on the basis that he can probably take Morrison's punches better than Morrison can take his.
this is a real tuff one i am not so sure about bruno taking morrison's punch better, bruno might just get caught and turn into a human punch bag with his hands dangling by his side . saying that i am not saying i would pick morrison here this is a real who lands first kind of a fight
I'm really not sure how this would pan out..... would either man try and box? Or would it be guns at the ready? :yep The thing that makes me pick Bruno is that he had the better jab and allround skillset of the two..... sure he could be hit and hurt but I'm not sure Morrison would be winging in big lefts like he did against Bentt. He can stop Morrison in his tracks with the jab, one over hand right would end it. Tommy would have to get inside Bruno to let the punches go, only Tyson really did that with any success.
Bruno, better chin, used his jab well, hits hard, pick a version that had half an idea about how to clinch and it's no contest IMO.
