Frank Bruno was not sonny Liston and floyd patterson was not "Floyd patterson" against sonny liston. Liston was more reliable at world level than Frank. Patterson might be too fast for Bruno.
It was not Sonny´s size which scared Floyd. Otherwise he would have lost to Chuvalo and bonavena too. Bruno´s quite a bit bigger and has a great jab but Floyd´s speed and power might trouble him. Bruno´s size might trouble Floyd but if Bruno is not getting him out of there early he most likely will end up getting outpointed with Patterson taking advantage of Bruno´s stamina and running away with points in the end.
Patterson by mid to late round TKO...as Mickey Duff said in his autobiography, Bruno didn't have the temperament to handle the big fights, he usually found a way to lose them... Bruno certainly ain't no Sonny Liston...
Frank had the tools for the job,but would he get in the right frame of mind to use them ? Floyd takes it on a late tko.
Agreed...Frank seems to be particularly highly rated by those fans who are impressed/fascinated by physical appearance, size, dimensions and stats, ko percentages etc, not by the subtle nuances such as actual achievement, boxing ability, temperament and whether a fellah can actually fight etc... The way some fans go on, there's really no need to have the actual fight, just have the weigh-in, get the tape measure out and get both boxers to pose in front of the mirror and flex their muscles...that should establish who the better fighter is... atsch
sorry cant see big frank being quick enough to take floyd out early and can see frank getting tired and being stopped possibly after the 9th round
Exactly who was Floyd Patterson against Sonny Liston? He got bounced off the canvas by otherwise unknown Ingo and Pete Rademacher. What's different about getting put down and kept down by Sonny, who was much better and a much better puncher than either? How does a 'fluke' first-round knockout happen twice?
Patterson was awful against Liston, the presure of being a champion had begun to get to him then because of the rematch clause he had to go through with it again. Patterson was never ever so bad. IMO floyd lost his mojo for both fights.
Patterson was not a mere title holder like those around today...He was the champ! Patterson gets less respect than any other HW on here and perhaps any weight. Bruno would be a tough match up but I see Floyd taking a nice decision over 12 and stopping him over 15
