Liston was a monster against Williams. First real heavy shot landed by Williams and Liston was on him. Tyson himself said THAT Liston would've been his worst nightmare.
This is one fight where I think size over skill prevails. Patterson is the better all around fighter, but Bruno was a lot bigger and hit extremely hard. I pick Bruno by ko in 4-5.
Would you pick Cleveland Williams to beat Floyd Patterson? If not, then you probably shouldn't be picking Frank Bruno to beat him, by the same logic!
I probably would pick Williams, I may be mistaken but I thought Patterson also avoided Williams back in the early 60's. The thing that always gets me about Patterson was his chin which I don't think would hold up against Bruno or Williams. Tim Witherspoon said Bruno was the hardest puncher he ever fought and Terrible Tim was very durable. I'm really not much of a fan of Frank Bruno but against a guy who was basically a cruiserweight I think his jab and power would prevail.
What makes Bruno a SHW particularly? What is the cut off? In Bruno's first 35 fights he never weighed above 230. He was 6'3". These 35 fights include his title shots vs Tyson and Witherspoon.
He hovered around 230 but was ripped. He bulked up more to 17 odd stone plus eventually. He was imo a shw without a doubt
I don't think any of them were useless. Bruno was an awesome fighter. I'm just poking fun at a modernist bias.
Patterson was fast and could hit if he could tag frank with his fast punchers he could Ko him but he would be vulnerable to Brunos big shots and ramrod jab .A short violent encounter Resulting in one of them unconscious on the canvas.
When did Bruno demonstrate this god-like superhuman punching i keep hearing about? Im not saying he wasnt a big hitter but i think it gets somewhat exaggerated. The same way Floyds chin gets somewhat exaggerated.
