The other part of McGrains assessment was Patterson and cruiserweight. I can only assume your mention of Tyson's reach comparative to Pattersons was to show Bruno had been beaten by a guy with the Mac's mentioned 10"+ reach difference?
Yeah. Tyson had no difficulty reaching Bruno. I think Patterson was fast enough on hand and foot and too good for Bruno. Of course, Bruno's chances against Floyd are probably some way better than they were against Tyson. With Floyd being lighter. But Bruno had virtually no chance against Tyson, despite the revisionism in that area recently. His chances against Floyd remain small.
This is a recent phenomenon that coincided with the emergence of fellow Brit Anthony Joshua. Basically Joshua is still Bruno level. He may improve but if dosnt that’s ok. Thing is people want Joshua to be great so Bruno’s stock has rose from the flames like a mighty Phoenix.
A lot of revisionism regarding Frank. He's unrecognisable from some of the posts. The moderate Jumbo Cummings had him on ***** street, while his losses were all inside the distance. At the time writers and fans were always complaining about the lack of quality they were fed. Who can forget the Chuck Gardner debacle and the walking corpse of Joe Bugner? Off course this is the traditional grooming of heavyweights in particular. His four cracks for the title were due to good connections, rather than merit. However it was good to see him win a timely alphabet belt against a made to order "holder" Oliver McCall.
Yes to be fair I never liked it when the public turned Bruno into a joke. He was never a joke. But I don’t like it now that he’s an ATG either. He was never an ATG. We need some middle ground here.
Whoops, did not know q---r was a naughty word! Anyway he was seriously staggered, the bell saving his bacon, to coin a phrase - hope this is permitted.
Yes choklab, dead right he was never a joke. He is a decent man who always did his best. Lewis didn't aid his cause when he referred to him as an Uncle T--. Two blanks here, I suppose. Floyd, by the way came over to give him a bit of coaching, I remember. Think it was around the Coetzee fight, or maybe LeDoux.
From what I remember from my time in London, 'Tom' is British slang for hooker, isn't it? and I not talking about the boxing kind.
Ali was guilty of this towards Frazier and others as well. It is a racial slur that comes from the 1850's novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin".
I can't really get my head round this fight. Patterson was clearly better than Bruno but Bruno would have a chance just on the basis of size and that Floyd's chin wasn't the greatest. Still, I think Floyd would win if he fought smart.
I think he has a medium chance tbh. It's a match i am struggling to get my head around. I don't rate Johansson massively and there's every chance Bruno is better. That leaves me with styles and intangibles.
