and you said 30!!:good hey the difference is 3lb, about how much lighter coetzee was against tillis...:yep
'A genuine powerhouse'? Without going round in circles, and lets even say Gerry Coetzee was in tip-top shape when they fought, when did he ever demonstrate this? I genuinely believe that some people equate muscles to power, not necessarily yourself mind. It doesnt. It might look impressive but doesnt mean they have this extraordinary punching ability just because they are well sculpted. Ive seen plenty of meatheads who couldnt knock the cap of your head (not that im calling Bruno a meathead, he was obviously a guy who looked after himself. His walk-around weight not much more than his fighting weight)
...... and 100% wrong too. :good Not that how one performs against Mike Evans is any indication of much at all. But anyone who followed Bruno's career with open eyes saw a recurring theme of fighters with minimal credentials on paper to start with coming to the UK in their worst shape ever ! And if you didn't notice, the press were usually kind enough to point it out to you the next day. :good
I really think Mickey Duff's comments about Bruno in his autobiography rears its head in this fight. Frank really was an "on top" fighter. Does anyone really think he is going to be "on top" against Foreman for 12 rounds? That and the horrible habit of freezing up whenever stunned. He'd just put everything on pause. That is not the habit to have against a finisher like George.
I think Bruno wont quit and would want to win for 12 rounds. He beat a more feisty mccall who KOd prime lennox lewis and beat larry holmes -two fighters Foreman (for good reason) would NEVER fight. I accept that horrible habit part about when bruno was stunned but that only hapened against BIG class fighters who knocked out many other rated fighters. Bonecrusher knocked out weaver and spoon and Tyson and lewis knocked out mulitple rated big fighters. Old foreman never stunned big rated heavyweights and he fought a few big fringe heavyweights who were knocked out by other fighters -Morrison, stewart, schultz, saverese and briggs that he could not stun. Because we cant put Old Foreman in the bracket of fighters who did stunn and KO frank I believe it is imposible to make a clear case for Foreman winning by KO. I think fist of furry makes a good point.
Weaver was on the slide and had already lost his Ring top 10 ranking after being stopped by Thomas. Witherspoon was ranked in the top 10 but struggling with his weight and out of the ring troubles with King, Bonecrusher was a stupid last second replacement that cost him dearly. A better prepared Spoon had already bested Bonecrusher prior. So World Heavyweight Champion, fit and in his prime, Michael Moorer (bigger than Weaver if you are stil caught up on size) is not in the same bracket as these guys? Just not making any sense anymore. :-(
no moorer is firmly not in that bracket. The mike evans result along with the Knockdowns by cooper and big foot (two guys who did not knock down foreman) together with the fact Moorer won the title from a sick holyfeild told shrewd foreman he was on safe ground against double M. A chance worth taking. yes spoon was Very good against bonecrusher first time and poor the second time but smith still Knocked out a big top HW.
First off, the logic used is about 2 branches off the trunk of the tree to justify the Bruno competition of McCall. Oliver is a much tougher fight for Foreman than Bruno. And Foreman offered $200k to Holmes in 77 for a fight. The most he'd ever made was $5k. It went to his stablemate Dino Dennis instead. So there was money on the table for the fight but Holmes was smart enough to not take it at the time. How that applies to a possible 1991 match with Foreman is irrevelant. Actually a Holmes fight may have been a good potential match for Bruno. But Foreman was no idiot in negotiations. The first thing that happens is the fight does not take place in Wembley. Nope, no chance. They make Frank take his act on the road---how'd that work out for Bruno when he did that, anyway? And Frank is the guy entering the ring first and drying out while George lolligags and enters the ring after Bruno is in the ring for 15 minutes waiting and drying out. George and Dundee would pull out lots of tricks like that and all those potential landmines prevents a guy like Bruno from getting his arm raised.
Going to go with Bruno here, excellent boxer and should have just enough to keep an old Foreman on the end of a jab. A younger Foreman wins by KO, but that much is obvious. Bruno had some elite level attributes which match up well here.
