cooney comes out aggressive and tko's bruno in the 2nd .when cooney lands big bruno's legs dip but he stays up freezes and is saved by the ref
Bruno would be too intimidated by Cooney and would let the pressure of the situation beat him Cooney TKO6
What about Cooney's own fragile psych tho? The only reason he lasted vs Holmes was Holmes decision to take no risks and put on a clinic of sorts. In short he gave himself the most foolproof way to a win. Holmes had him hurt early and almost certainly IMO could have gotten him out of there soon after. Pick'em for me. Bruno is actually the more proven and fighting Cooney probably isn't that big of a situation. It was never going to be for a title, unless we use Bruno Gun to the head, i'm taking Bruno here. Better fundamentals and more proven. I'd be pretty scared tho
I disagree John thomas I think Cooney had better fundamentals, but they are pretty evenly matched But Cooneys just a little better at everything else edge in power, maybe chin,Little better skills slight ht advantage, but hey if bruno got there first i dont rule him out.But I think Cooney would so ill go with Cooney by 4th round ko.
Lewis was sloppy as hell in the Bruno fight... yet still damn near decapitated Frank w/a left hook. And Lewis wasnt even known for his hook. Cooney's hook was knock Bruno into another world.
I look at the trouble Cooney had vs an old Jimmy Young, i look at Bruno's excellent boxing vs Witherspoon, his awkwardness for Lewis, tho both are stiff i just plain see Bruno as the better rounded fighter. Who has Cooney ever outboxed? Well, who has he ever beat? Bruno has a much much better overall resume and has been tested many more times against much a better quantity. Taking fighting spirit into account Bruno just might be the more durable. I'm not convinced fighting was really that deep in Cooney's blood to be honest. Bruno had plenty of will, and in a fight like this it might spell the difference. As for power, Bruno had the better balanced two fisted attack. Cooney's right hand was never proven to be much at all, tho some will point to an isolated incident or two. A flash here and a flash there does not maketh a decent right hand. Great matchup tho.
Good points. I guess most of my opinion is based on how competetive Cooney fought a prime Holmes, Holmes gave him a beating at the end but Cooney was in that fight up until the very end.His left was awesome more powerful than anything Bruno threw. I agree though that Fighting was not exactly in Cooney psyhce.
I think people forget how good of a boxer Bruno was. The only fight he was really blown out in was the 2nd Tyson fight, and he was terrified in that fight. He gave as good as he got until he got tired. He had much more ability than Cooney and hit hard. I think he would stop Cooney after taking some hard shots himself around the 5th round.
cooney would be to aggressive to let bruno set the pace of the fight with his jab.bruno freezes when hit with power
Got to go with Cooney on this one. He was faster than Bruno, and would get his big punches off quicker.
I will go with Bruno here based on the fact that he proved more at the world level. Both of these guys usualy fell short at the top but Bruno at least got some signiture wins which Cooney never really did. If Bruno fights like he did against Lewis or McCall he probably does enough to win. If it is anything other than the best version of Cooney expect it to be like the Coetze fight.
