Bruno, when he applied it, had one of the finest heavyweight jabs in decades. Young would embarass him, regardless.
Prime verses prime, Bruno always got nervous fighting a top ten contender. Bruno should dominate and win by mid round stoppage, but realistically he would find a way to blow it. Bruno leading convincingly by mid fight, chokes down the final stretch, and perhaps even gets stopped late. Young TKO12
Young doesn't really have enough power for me to pick him by late KO here, even against Bruno. Close fight, Brunos jab would cause problems but I'd go with Young via close decision.
I think Young's chin is underrated. Hugely overweight and unmotivated he stood completely flatfooted and took everything Gerry Cooney threw at him. Ridiculously hard shots that tore open his face and gave him a disgusting cut. These are the same shots that sparked Norton into a near coma and broke Ron Lyle's ribs. Young never even went down.
A motivated Young wins this by dec,he beat a better version of Bruno in Lyle imo ,slow moving plodders were meat for Young. I never thought much of Bruno.
I think Young would be too inactive and get out-jabbed early on in the fight, but his superior speed, skill and stamina would start to become a factor in the mid-to-later rounds. Young by close but clear decision.
Bruno was a real letdown. You look at him and he had a perfect physique, he looked like he could tear another guys head off with his bear hands, a real animal but he just didnt have the skills against top heavyweights that he showed against inferior opposition. People in England really wanted him to beat Lewis and obviously Tyson but he was never really capable, he had his moments but he never lived up to his potential. Young by decision.
Bruno has the style to win this 1, his real let down was freezing against big punchers. But his jab and athleticism was great and that jab will win him this fight. Plus against a smaller man who he can bully that can't hurt him, he'll come into his own Bruno UD
And Young didn't freeze against big punchers; plus who he was competitve against, I say he manages to outwork Bruno to a UD. Good matchup tho :good
young gives away the first few rounds as bruno would use his jab better than young early on, after round 5 or 6 young`s better speed and bruno`s suspect stamina comes into play and young runs out a ud winner
I have to say, if this fight ever occured, I'd only want to put money on Bruno. Even if Jimmy Young deserves a points win, he's not going to shut-out Frank. Even if one leaves aside the massive gulf in popularity and promotional clout, there's the difference in styles: Bruno was a busy fighter who tended to throw heavy yet clean punches that looked impressive even when they didn't land solidly; Jimmy Young had the kind of style that said to the judges "Please, PLEASE don't give me this round."
