These 2 guys were very popular with the masses. They had that 'everyman' appeal were everyone wanted them to do well but when they thought about it they knew it was going to end in disaster. People warmed to Bruno and Hatton because they had personality. I remember when Bruno fought Tyson the second time and plenty of people thought he was going to do it, the same with Hatton v Mayweather. This was a case of patriotism getting in the way of sense. It'll be the same when our footie team go to the world cup next year, millions of people will think we have a real chance when in reality we have no chance .... Its an ongoing thing with British sport, we let hope get in the way of reality ..
Bruno transcended boxing in a way that only Henry Cooper and possibly Barry McGuigan when he was fighting managed to do.
God, I hated Bruno as a fighter. Massively, massively over-rated and lost to every decent fighter he ever fought.
I think Hatton is an utter wanker, although I'll support him in every fight he's in. Bruno? Always liked him. Seems like a geniunely nice guy, and I was so happy when he finally won a belt. Bruno the more popular for me.
