What is going on is actually very simple.

Primo has a much better resume on paper, and I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt based on this.

You are not, and I get this.

    Except Elmer Ray of course.

    Resume wise he has:

    Buddy Knox
    Pat Valentino
    Gus Dorazio
    Elmer Ray
    Eddie Blunt
    Johny Haynes
    Arturo Godoy
    Lee Q Murray

    Not bad at all.

Thompson stopped Ray in 1943 Ray,who was then 188lbs, was unranked.
Decent resume no doubt ,but not exceptional.
Murray was washed up,he had won 1 of his last 7, have 2 more fights and retire.
Haynes record is23-18-0 he was ko'd 11 times.
Blunt had won 1 of his last 7,he would win 2 out of his next 8 and retire.

Ray went on a tear right after that loss. Thompson also knocked out a past it Murray (while Thompson himself was also past it) and a very young Pat Valentino. Not a lot to go on in terms of quality stoppages but it's not like there weren't other feared or known punchers who only had about 1-3 quality knockouts over their peers.

Murray and Blunt were past prime Ray was pre- prime.Ray," went on a tear against a collection of "sausages".
Valentino, who only weighed 181 won their 1st fight beat Thompson a couple of months later.
