Frank Bruno vs Tim Witherspoon

Bruno was the most one dimensional clown I have ever seen. As a kid even I could tell he was hopeless watching him KO bum after bum with all the idiotic hype. A decent bloke but so stiff with no natural balance or rhythm. A fringe contender who got lucky. I was so glad when Lewis came along and actually started beating people....

 

bruno has similar skill set to wlad, big right hand, nice jab, good in a clinch, strong, athletic for a big guys ext... i wouldnt say he was a finge contender.

 

Bruno...the heavyweight Ike Quartey, i salute you.

 

There was nothing wrong with Frank. Talent-wise Bruno was better than 90% of the belt holders but he was SO over exposed as a mainstream attraction far too early. He never could develop properly after that. The opponents and sparring partners that were imported for him asked for too much money,,,,and most just came for the money.

Had Frank had less exposure the better fighters within the progression levels would have taken the risk and fought him, his opponents would have asked for less money and worked harder. The Bruno name was so big his opponents took fights with him as a last resort. They came knowing they couldn’t prove anything. A capable journeyman looking to break into the big time was not looking at Bruno because there was always easier tasks. Taking on Frank in London was like biting the bullet and making some cash.

Bruno lacked competitive fights mostly because of his talent but also because he couldn’t land competitive fights outside of title fights.
