And considering where Ricky was in his career, those guys were no scrubs. Johanneson was a euro-level fighter against a novice. Arthur was an excellent amateur who put together some great wins as a pro.

Nothing wrong with losing, as long as you get better from it. Ricky picked Graham Earl to pieces.

Cleverly can't box, and whilst he's probably stronger in the close exchanges than Froch, he's not smart with it..... he'd be hit plenty.

I think Froch would keep him on the outside and coast to a victory, personally. Froch vs Bellew would be a better fight - in this one Froch would have to bring it to win.

Froch walking around in the low 170's doesn't really matter, he'd only be weakening himself by going to 160. He'd probably do it but he'd be no good, not the same fighter.

Exactly DFT my good man, & ricky did that against earl coming in at late notice if I remember which makes it all the more special...
It was that fight I believe that was the catalyst for everything Ricky has achieved, his first underdog fight where he pulled a masterclass out of the bag and shocked everyone. & to this day people still are shocked when he rips up the form card, even including myself sometimes:oops:

I saw this in the paper myself...nearly spat my cup of tea out.

Fisheyes said "Ricky has already proven superior to Carl Froch who twice already has been found wanting at world level" :rofl

For me Carl's beaten world class fighters, guys who've beaten other world class fighters at some point in there career. Bute gets flack but he's a solid world champion, Abraham for all the he's not effective at SMW has beaten a decent fringe world class fighter in Steiglitz and hurt Dirrell and took a round or two from P4P Andre Ward. That for me is still a decent win and to do it via shutout as well makes it even better. Pascal can be counted although people would say ''but he never beat anyone before that''. That's fair enough, but Ricky's not faced the best in any division yet IMHO. Faced threats? yes but not the best..

For me Katsidis is a hero, a true modern day warrior. A man of pride and integrity and of humble ilk but he's sadly a fringe world class operator who's failed to win against world class fighters even though he's came so close on occassions.

Martinez although world champion, beat a European level fighter in Nicky Cook who was so lucky to face Alex Arthur for a world title because he'd of been beaten by other champions that night IMHO. Nicky was a good solid fighter but not good enough against the more skilled fighters of division.

Martinez has beaten no real world class fighters IMHO, He's beaten fringe/international level fighters. Moses was a decent world champion and can get the nod of approval as a world class fighter but not at the higher end of the division. It wasn't to long ago people spoke of Mitchell going after Moses for the belt as he was ''easy pickings''.

Mitchell is and will never be a world class fighter IMO, Skilled offensively but defensively weak and mental make up to far short of what's needed to reign supreme at top of the mountain.

Froch hasn't needed soft touches, he's reeled off a fine list and with losses and wins. I think he's legacy far outweighs what Burns has done thus far personally.

I'm not quite sure why the Earl win didn't do more for Ricky's reputation. For me it is an utterly sensational win. He was a kid, 21 years old, the same age as me now. He schooled a unbeaten british champion (at the weight above him) at two days notice. I'm surprised people didn't start talking about him as a future world champion after that. I've seen the fight about 100 times.

I hear you Mik, Rickys always been slept on on down south though, but back in those days Ian Darke was the main man, & he ****in hated our fighters, so it doesnt surprise me that Rickys awesome skillset wasnt picked up upon back then, but we always knew:deal

I'm probably one of the biggest non-Scottish backers of Burns on here, but there's no way that he's proven himself to be superior to Froch.

Unless something changes quickly, it ain't happening either.

Say what you want about Froch, but he's had 9 fights at world level and won 7 of them, in a harder weight class than either 130 or 135 that Burns has been operating in.

Burns equalling Froch would be to beat everyone and lose to Marquez... which ain't happening unfortunately.

Dunky don't take people slagging Fwankie as having a pop at Ricky who knows he may go on and have a better resume but as it stands it not even close.
