Anyone know much about this? Frank Erne is reported to have had two fractured ribs from his fight against Gus Gardner, which was less than two months before he lost the title to Joe Gans.
1902-03-24 The Buffalo Evening Times (page 8) Regarding his broken rib, Erne said: "Gardner hit me in the same place that big Jim Fitzpatrick hurt when I was training for my fight with Gans two years ago. At first I thought he had broken one of my ribs, but I guess he hasn't, though the spot where he hit me is very sore. It didn't bother me much during the fight."
