Frank: Gavin to be world class in one year.

In my opinion Gavin is by far the most well rounded, talented prospect in Britain now. I've been very impressed with how he has adapted to having to take the fight to his opponents which is against his normal counter punching style. I think he could handle every domestic opponent out there now and win comfortably. Even Mccloskey is a fight he could take as Mccloskey coming forward would suit him and I have my doubts on Paul's defence. Obviously with the 147 lbs belt holders all being so young, there's a chance that in a few years he will have to fight the likes of Khan, Bradley an Alexander. Can't wait for then:good

 

Frankie's a super little fighter, world class in a year? No, not because he's not good enough but because he's a Frank Warren lad. I think he'l be pushed quicker than most prospects FW's had under his wing becuase he's that good but it'l still be softly softly. Euro champ by end of next year is definately doable.

I'm not going to stick my nose into other people's debate but on the subject of our journeymen: as much respect as i have for these guys (they're as necessary to the sport as the ropes and canvas) I dont feel the standard is good enough when you're talking about them fighting a prospect like Frankie Gavin. Again i dont wanna be hard on these lads, but compare the guys Frankie's beat to a fighter the quality of Tischenko... the Russians a double olympic gold medalist and world amateur champ. Valentino the fella frankie beat in the Worlds finals is a mutli time medalist. He's shared a ring with legend Mario Kindelen a while back too remember, i know its ams lads and ladies but still the step down in class is a large 1 even taking into consideration the time needed to adjust to the pro game.

Im an outsider looking in I appreciate that but it does seem our prospects ought to be given sterner tests earlier. In an ideal world it becomes a global trend and the importance of a fighter's 'zero' lessens but hey business is business

Gavin can easily be world class in 18 months; that said, FW would NEVER risk putting one of his young fighters through the ringer like that. If they actually approached him on a tournemynt, he'd find some excuse to keep him out.

thats a fair point. i am probs way off the mark. i am just a fan of fighters looking big and ripped. i know its not a body building competition but Khan, Haye, Froch always look tremendous.

Yeah I agree with all that.

Some of the journeymen that crop up in America would teach some of our lower top 10 fighters a lesson - the kid that Groves beat in Germany was a good fighter.

We have had some good journeymen like Tony Booth, Carl Allen when he was younger and so on..... but some of them now are very poor and need freezing out.

Maybe if we got rid of these masters titles, the Commonwealth and inter-continentals - we'd have seen Khan vs Thaxton & Murray, and Murray/Thaxton when it was worth something..... Barker/Macklin/Elcock much earlier etc etc etc. The domestic scene is dying on it's feet with the ''lets wait until later'' theme, champions fighting weak challengers (Kell Brook) and weak defences (Sam Webb is fighting Martin Concepcion next).

Every domestic defence should be a mandatory.
