This is just Frank talking about his company, Boxnation, Sky, GB amateurs etc with Tris Dixon of Boxing News. Would probably be better off as a podcast really. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_M0iiPq87o[/ame]
I'm about 20 mins in, it is a good listen if you've got some free time. From about 17 mins he talks about certain fighters like Clev and Burns showing loyalty when they got paid late and then blasts Bellew
He has sly digs at them all the way through without actually mentioning them. It's only later on Tris actually asks him about Matchroom. Obviously Frank is putting his spin on a lot of the stuff he's saying but it's an interesting insight into things.
He cant complain about sky paying out loads on premiership and formula1 and giving them preferential treatment cos they are the flagship sports on the channel. He seems to not understand boxing is a niche sport and has to wait his turn.
I never understand why Frank bangs on about Sky ditching boxing is bad for the sport, surely such a move is better for his own venture Boxnation?
Tbf there is an element of a circular argument about all this. It seems to be F1 is considered a banner sport purely because the networks decide to pay a lot of money for it; for the large part, the British public are stupid and will buy anything. Boxing has proven time and again that it can capture people's imagination and deliver big ratings but because the networks want nothing to do with it, it becomes a niche sport.
The odd fight can capture peoples imaginantion but a fight in a leisure centre in the middle of nowhere between a brit and a afrobum doesnt catches anybody's attention.
Well Fury fought a bum at some venue in Somerset of all places and will have got 1m+ rating. Lets not pretend F1 is an exciting, dynamic sport; the networks spend a lot of money for the rights and then spend more money pushing it to the consumer. I assume the main difference between the two is that F1 attracts much more lucrative sponsors than boxing.
