It is indeed, could be rectified initially by banning the same person promoting and managing a fighter, creates a horrible conflict of interest.
Do you think Hearn is some morally superior being that won't try and get options? I bet the Mack deal has options. Burns is a big fish, especially here, it's not silly to ask for options when taking on a dangerous fighter that ISN'T his mandatory.
Options are standard practise in a voluntary defence. It's called insurance - any number of things can happen that would cause a loss: a cut, an injury, disqualification on a minor infraction, etc. It's not immoral or unfair. You need some protection just in case. Same as rematch clauses. And, let's be honest, a title fight against Burns is an incredible opportunity for Rees. If Brook won a title and Hearn offered Frankie Gavin a shot, do you think he'd offer no options? If he didn't, he'd be a total tool of a businessman. As Lilo says, there's a bit of a double standard going on when people talk about Hearn. This is not Haye-Maccarinelli where Frank had no right to ask for options over a unification fight. It's not even when he "tried" to make the fight just as Haye had been confirmed as the mandatory for Mormeck's lineal championship, offering low money and options. Perspective, people.
As Lilo says, this is unfair on Frank. Options are standard business practise and, in general, totally fine. Burns is offering a voluntary shot to Rees, so Frank needs to protect his investment.
Let's put it this way, if all roles were reversed would Fwank accept the fight on the terms he offered Hearn?
Well, that's not what we're discussing. People are making out that it's unreasonable for Frank to ask for options on a voluntary defence against a domestic level opponent.
Rees is ranked No.2 by the WBA. The offer was less than what Rees makes for world title fights. While we would love to live in this magical world where boxing wasn't about making cash then perhaps Rees would go for it, but he wants to get paid and he doesnt wanna be back with fwank.
What are you talking about? We don't live in a magical world where promoters want to lose out on an investment either. Fair enough Rees doesn't want it, but there's nothing wrong with options on a voluntary defence. Learn to read before being a sarcastic *****.
Yes we get it, all promoters ask for options. It's just that Frank doesn't appear to be making any big name fights for his stable. You only have to look at Cleverly, DeGale and even Burns to a certain extent.
