We better start taking him serious...dude is the real deal..skills for days can knock you out or outbox you...very slick...hes a problem at 135...For me hes the prospect of the year and a future Champion.
I was considering doing an Educate Yourselves thread on him after he KO'd Marinez, but drug my feet.... because I had no idea he'd level up so quickly after that and take out Rivera. Yeah, he's very much the real deal. I think he's more than capable of beating Haney, Davis and Stevenson.
Like you i was impressed with him in his past fights but i needed to see him against a higher level opponent to confirm he was for real and he did that last night against a good fighter like Rivera. Hes a problem at lightweight but hes also gonna have problems trying to get the other top guys in the division to get in the ring with him cause lets face it nobody wants to get schooled.
Agree, he's in that unenviable position, of everyone in the know, knowing he's the real deal, but mainstream audiences being barely aware of his existence, so they can dodge him with impunity. So sadly enough, tonight's exemplary showing, in the long run, won't do him any favors.
Completely agree...they will go to the usual routine of pretending they dont know who somebody is in this case Martin when in reality they know very well who he is its just an excuse to duck him and others.
"Drug my feet" Good ol Florida boy. Love it. May I suggest "Beware the Hellish Hoosier" "An eerie wind blows from Hoosier Hill" "Who you gonna call when the phantasmic pugilist is in your neighbourhood" And such and such.
He's very definitely a problem for anyone at 135lbs, based on his skill-set and the fact that he can punch pretty hard and time those shots well. I guess the only question is how good a punch he can take and how he might react when put under serious pressure. An in-house match with Isaac Cruz could answer those questions. Romero in theory could provide an answer to those question, too...But I think he gets schooled pretty badly by the Ghost. Either way, I don't hate his chances against anyone at 135lbs.
