Lets be real. Mir fought a fighter thats been fighting like a shot fighter for years. Mir dosn't suck as, but he shure didn't make himself look good last night.
Sometimes you just don't look good, styles make fights and Mirko was very defensive from the stand up, and that is his game, Frank will not just charge and get hit by a left hand, shot or not he carried alot of power in those hands and the legs too.
Mir fought a VERY defensive fighter who made himself much MORE dangerous because it looked like he was waiting for one big left hand or one big kick or one big counter. As SOON as CC actually opened up and tried to win he got put to sleep. Good name for Mirs record and he beat him standing. CC's been mentally shot for years. He may have trouble pulling the trigger due to age but add in his mentality and he falls to pieces so often.
He just couldn't get the takedown, which does make him look a little bad, but he was controlling the standup.
It was Frank Mir vs CroCop, given the circumstances, he controlled the fight standing. He would have won the decision, probably 30-27, without the fight ever hitting the ground. So the entire fight was standing, and Mir would have taken it, that is control.
I cant put last nights terrible fight and medicore performence by Mir on Mir himself. Cro Cop is the one who spent last night fending off takedowns, rarely throwing a punch, maybe 2-3 kicks he just fought almost scared like he has for years after the Gonzaga KO. Mir was applying pressure, throwing more and atleast trying to get the fight to the ground. Takes 2 to tango had Mirko come to win then we wouldve had a better fight for sure.
Oh and Crocop looked very timid and scared, and Frank really needs to work on his takedowns. I think I saw him go for 1 single leg and he didn't really put alot into it. But jiujitsu guys have never had the greatest takedowns.
