I think it's pretty good and the way he takes shots on the forehead and the reasoning behind it is very smart.

Hmm not sure to what make of that video. His logic and technique seem slightly off in my opinion from a purist boxing perspective. You dont take shots on the forehead thats stupid. The idea of boxing is to hit and not be hit. You keep you chin down because the punches that will likely hurt and cripple you the most will be a blow to the jaw which can break your jaw if landed cleanly. Any punch landing down the centre line will hurt ie above the lip the nose and between the eyes. The way the kid through the right hand was completely wrong. Ideally the vid should have showed his feet so we could have seen the correct positioning. You dont lean into a straight right. You throw the straight right with a twisting motion from the feet up and the arm follows the same trajectory resulting in a side on to square on motion and then back to stance.

I'd rather slip something than let it land on my forehead.

Exactly. The ovious thing to have done would be to parry the shot. Not allow it you hit you. Its no wonder his nose is so flat.

lol as a last resort in mma its a good idea to take it on the forehead since u can break their hand and it hurts less then on teh nose

I feel all are very good points of view and Shammy did say it's a last resort move. I like how Frank shows how to properly step in with the jab and tilt to the side to avoid any incoming.

I like it, lets keep the opinions coming because I really like Scurla's observation on them not showing the feet. I'll post one of GSP in a bit.

There is nothing wrong with anything he said.

Moving your head while punching can be a good idea. Some guys keep their head in one place and it's easy to tee off. Cotto is quite good at moving his head to the side while punching.

Taking the punch on the top of your head is much preferred. Keep your chin down cos if that gets caught your chin can rock and roll like a swivel. You've got more chance on the top of the head. He did say if he hasn't got enough time to react and if this is the case then what he says is right.

Again, I agree with everything he says. I doubt he believes you have to do that same movement on every jab and right hand, that is too predictable but slipping while punching is right.

A bit like Joe Frazier? Ali used to say that Joe often used to angle his head so that a punch would land on the hardest part of his skull. After a few rounds Ali's hands would swell up inside his gloves and he couldn't punch as effectively .
    Of course this isn't good for a fighter's longevity,but it's not something I haven't heard before.

He is reaching with his punches.
His arm is basically at full extension when he hits the target.
Even thou he is twisting and pivoting , he is losing power.
His elbow should be closer to his body and he should be stepping in when he punches, whereas, he would be hitting the target way before his arm is at full extension.
Also, we cant see his feet to see if he is changing weight properly.

Yes -- that is the idea.
The punch ideally should just miss you or graze you.
And now you are in position to counter.
Now if you do get hit on the forehead, you are leaning into the punch and you are still in a position to counter.
Your forehead has alot of protection.
the likehood of your opponent hurting his hand is more likely than getting hurt by a punch to the forehead.
