Tate after winning the wbc title against Olajide and stopping Sibson in a title defense seem like he was destined for great things but he was never the same fighter again after being totally outclassed by Michael Nunn.
Tate was plagued by weight problems before Nunn fight and then after seem to lose focus and didn't train properly. Tate before winning the Gold medal at 84 Olympic's was trained in am by Emanuel Steward. After the Olympic's he took up a big money offer to be under contract to Josephine Abercrombe's Houston Boxing Association and being trained by Jesse Reid. Interesting how would his career panned out if he stayed with Kronk gym.
Well that's something we oldsters see all the time=====a guy looks so good on the way up. But the suffer that one defeat and they lose about 25% of their effectiveness. And more losses pile up and their record never really does a good job of painting a picture of how good they were prior to the defeat. That's Frank Tate. His brother Thomas was not as good, but had a nice career himself. This is what makes boxing the toughest of sports====1 loss in other sports and rebounding is no where near as difficult as boxing. Also, what happened to Tate could very well happen to lots of guys if they were facing Micheal Nunn that night. He showed up in great condition and with a strong mindset very determined to have his hand raised at the end of the bout. Sharp as a razor. Pretty tough task facing a tall lanky southpaw like Nunn on his finest night.
