This thread makes out that additional boxing is remotely important to BT Sport's portfolio in terms of DAZN's interest. Queensberry will have the right to be compensated within its contract, if it isn't honoured; honouring it will possibly be cheap and straightforward as people have said here. The main thing DAZN must worry about is continuing football rights as they stand; UEFA and the Premier League don't sell rights for mainstream TV broadcasting only for them to end up on a streaming platform, so there's every chance DAZN will have to just carry on as is for a while. The purchase will give them a period of rights and the understanding from 10 years of bidding to help secure the next ones. The most likely thing is Queensberry ending up dumped once DAZN/BT consolidate around the next football rights auctions and decide what's actually important to them; it wouldn't be remotely surprising if Matchroom offered up darts as part of a package since it's the only real crowd-pleaser on Sky away from football.
Rumours abound that if DAZN does take over BT they would jettison rights and concentrate on the football, UFC and cricket. I doubt DAZN would wish to keep WWE and the other American sports that aren’t drawing eyeballs and subscriptions. As for Frank, he deserves to be compensated if DAZN drops Queensbury in favour of Matchroom in the middle of a contract. That said, his contract is with BT Sport and if BT Sport ceases to exist then I’m not sure where Frank stands. The likeliest scenario is DAZN takes over the majority of BT rights, Frank sees out the rest of his contract or cuts a deal with DAZN and then moves on promoting six to eight shows a year on ITV or Sky.
UEFA have already shown they will sell rights to a streaming platform. DAZN have the CL rights in Germany. What UEFA do try to mandate is a minimum amount of people actually watching. As I said before I don't think the premier league are too bothered whether it's steaming or TV. Amazon is streaming and the EPL wouldn't block amazon streaming more games. DAZN could try and have a channel on Sky but sky could refuse as they may not want a competitor on the platform.
Hope there is irony in that post - Eh Day extracted every last drop of urine and injected it into Adam Smith
This is my point though, if they wanted a streaming deal then they’d sell it and as you say, have started doing that. BT is not a streaming deal and if nothing else the PL in particular protects its interests. DAZN will go along with it for the duration then see what the rights comprise at that time.
Where is the official announcement as we are now 6 weeks into the 'advanced talks to buy BT Sport'. DAZN UK streaming service is already looking like a limp Boxnation after 6 years. The DAZN subscribers in the US are frothing at the mouth after finding out the Canelo v @Olu G. Rotimi Plant Pot Head is not on DAZN Game over unless BT Sports is confirmed
There was a card on DAZN last night and the interest shown by nearly all boxing fans was next to the square root of zero. Game changed
Zero quality control over both Box Office and Sky Sports fights - it was clear for all to see if one compares the offering pre Matchroom exclusive contract and the final 3 years of Matchroom contract. Eh Day served up serious pony and now the DAZN UK £7.99 monthly mugths will suffer the same garbage.
As a fan of boxing, I'd Ideally like to see Queensbury stay with DAZN. Fights between Queensbury and Matchroom boxers start to take place as they should be easier to make happen.
Unfortunately Frank doesn’t seem keen to have a non exclusive agreement. Wonder where he would (hypothetically) go next? Sky have their own thing going on, Hennessy is on channel 5. ITV? BoxNation?
He could be exclusive to BT if DAZN retains the brand; parent company could broker fights between the two camps. Other than his personal interest in boxing inherited from his old man, Eddie Hearn seems intent on making Matchroom a media company - have to wonder what might happen if he did that side of things and ran the cash, with Frank as the matchmaker and manager, on the same platform. Boxing would probably win and Barry Hearn has long said it’s just Warren’s business dealings he doesn’t like - no problem with his promotions.
They've had a crap month since the Liverpool card. They have a very strong month leading up to 18th December. 2 UK cards, 3 US cards, 1 bonus Spanish one. Sub in on 19th Nov, cancel immediately, £7.99 well spent imho. I don't love all the headliners, but there will be some good bouts in there. I'm most interested in Buatsi v Vlasov. Do you genuinely think that's not good value for money?
