Agreed. The talent on display in the first five rounds last night was exceptional. Footwork, distance, head movement, hand speed, combinations, punch variety. It was the sweet science at its best, albeit against a rubbish opponent. He wobbled Isufi a couple of times too. He was caught with a heavy shot above the ear in 6 or 7 and was visibly shook but the intelligence he showed to recover was top class. He looks like he's had the gloves on since he was a baby and he probably has. I actually had to run out the door so I missed the last four rounds unfortunately.
Warren is a surviver. He's been around forever and always recovers. Still to this day he has world champions and top prospects. I wouldn't worry about him. He'll leave this sport in an expensive coffin, with several world champions on his payroll.
As for Billy, who knows what's next. The Jr fight does nothing for me. It's a routine win and Jr only brings a toy belt to the table. I'd prefer to see him at middleweight than supermiddleweight but really I just want him to fight names.
You just made me count how many world champions Britain has. Yafai (MR) Edwards (MR) Warrington (QP) Taylor (C) Smith (MR) Saunders (QP) Joshua x3 (MR) (Frank has Tete too). Poor from the UK at the minute.
I think last night was more a means to an end. Get Saunders a belt, that may pay off in a big way if it helps land a Golovkin or Canelo fight. They were pushing both names as well as Smith and Eubank JR. Then keep BT Sport happy with a 'name' headliner for one of their shows. BJS indicated he'd fight again on the 02 card also. I don't think Stevenage would've been a pricey venue to hire. Difficult to know the crowd size due to the way it was filmed, but it didn't look like a dead loss from the crowd size. Finally, the fights were featured on ESPN. So Joyce and Saunders get a bit of exposure prior to possible fights there later. So to me, the night was a means to an end, not a massive money maker by any means but it got one of Franks big names back in action as a belt holder. Job done.
As much as I appre late bjs boxing ability, I do have to agree with you Tony. World champions should be setting good examples.
