I DO not mind admitting I was gutted at the way Amir Khan and his team brought our partnership to an end after five years and 25 fights together.

These days it seems loyalty is a quality bestowed in very few sportsmen.
I am also offended they say Golden Boy Promotions can do a better job in guiding his career.

i think its really unprofessional the way khan just left warren standing on his own. khan wanted to go america why not take the promoter who made you there aswell.

to me it seems khan thinks he is the next manny in the making when he is far from it, gbp wont give him the support warren will give.

    coming from a khan fan

I'm not a Frank Warren fan but he has been treated poorly by Khan in all of this, as he said he was the one who picked him up from the defeat to Prescott and got him a World title fight soon after.

If Khan gets KO'd by Maidana then who will pick up the pieces this time?

I give Warren credit for being able to build stars, and I did this in another thread a couple of hours ago, but when he claims that he was going to get Khan a fight against Bradley I have a bit of trouble buying it.

Warren is known for being very protective of his fighters. I doubt he would put Khan in with Bradley, especially with Khan admitting himself that he isn't ready.

All Warren does is pick the fights, Khan fights them...he had to win his next few bouts after Prescott and it was him that picked himself up from that loss, not Warren. Any promoter could have done the same in picking him fights that arent punchers after Prescott.

IMO Khans best move was training with Roach who he really improved under and will continue to improve with. The way a fighter learns is through sparring, I have no doubt that the talent in Wild Card has helped Khan a lot...

That said, Warren shouldnt have been left like that and Im sure Warren could have guided him in America too. I think Hatton did the same thing to Warren. I think Steve Bunce said after Hatton left Warren, "If you want loyalty, get a dog". Its true, its a business...Warren had as much to gain as Khan did by joining together...now Khan has more to gain by going to GBP or so he thinks, its business.

This sort of thing happens all the time in American professional sports. Off the top of my head, the best example would be Shaquille O'Neal leaving the Orlando Magic (team who drafted him) for the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent because he felt like it would be a better opportunity for his career and his off the court endeavors.

Now i'm sure Warren feels pretty abandoned right now, as did the Magic, however it's the nature of the system that's in place and so the competition is fair game.

Maybe Khan wants to be a real fighter and actually fight real fights. Warren's fighters never seem to get good fights, so I understand why he wanted to leave.

I love how even in a column about Khan leaving him, he can't stop himself having a sly dig at Haye.

Khan leaving Warren might mean he is ready to step up to some big fights. Warren is too worried about money to let his fighters take risks.
