STEPHEN SMITH is eager to put Lee Selby in his place.

Having lost his British and Commonwealth featherweight titles to the Welshman in September, Smith has been forced to endure a frustrating wait for his shot at revenge.

Selby made a first defence of his new belts last week when halting the usually rock hard John Simpson in five, with a body shot doing the damage.

Smith admits to being surprised by the punch which ended the fight but insists his opinion of Selby has not changed.


“I was more surprised by the shot which ended the fight,” said Smith.

“Maybe Simpson had a problem leading up to the fight because it was him who forced it to be put back a month

“The fight was going as I’d thought, it was close but I had Simpson just ahead.

“But I have taken nothing more from it and I still want the rematch with Selby.

“He has been shouting his mouth off in interviews, getting digs in left, right and centre.

“He said he only feels like a champion now he’s beaten Simpson because he didn’t think I beat John when we fought.

“Selby won’t feel like a champion when I take those belts back off him.”

I've posted my thoughts about Smith previously after his comments post-Selby loss. I'd love Selby to rematch him and leave him cold oncemore, have some ****ing humility, for God's sake.

 

i'd prefer the fight at 140, but don't think Gavin would have taken the fight light-welter.

Cookie can't let Gavin settle early, he needs to unsettle him and draw him into a fight.

be a massive win for Cookie at this stage of his career and hope he can pull it off.

They were meant to box last year but cook didn't make weight so gavin beat lomax instead

Yeah that was a strange one. They were meant to fight at 140 but Cook couldn't make 140 so they fought Lomax instead... at 147.

 

Frankie was the shizzle against Lomax.

 

Aye, best performance I've seen of his, I think.

He was very patient, almost clinical, picked his shots well and stopped his man in convincing fashion.

After that I think we were all expecting Frankie to challenge Theopane in his next fight, that seems like ages ago now.

EDIT: Just checked boxrec to see how long ago the Lomax fight was (Feb 2011) and just happened to notice Frankie has only weighed in at LWW once as a pro.
