I think this guy is a great fighter and maybe a little underrated. I know he won his last fight against Sherk and has some decent wins (Franca, Tyson Griffin). What's the MMA forum's opinions on him? How far do you think he can go?
I think he is a great fighter, just look at his record and his last fight with sherk. One problem is there is a group of fighters in very much the same mold in the ufc 155 division; Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, and Sherk to name 3. They all have their own stylistic tendencies that make them different; Tyson is more Thai based in his striking, Gray is more the pure wrestler, and Sherk is probably the most like Edgar. So he is 2-1 against that group, and clearly in contention for a title shot, but frankly I don't see any of them beating BJ for at least two years. I think he has the best hands of the bunch, equal takedowns / wrestling in a pound for pound sense although Maynard is better in a real life matchup, probably both in terms of technique and size, that was pretty evident. I don't think Maynard is the problem that will keep him from being a champion, but he represents a problem in his size; Edgar could absolutely fight at 145. So I think he is the most naturally gifted of the younger 3, and Sherk seems to be forgetting his bread and butter. What I really think is that Edgar is a real threat to anybody at 145, and I do mean anybody; Faber, Brown, Aldo, anybody. I think he needs to develop his bottom game a little more, because a bigger, equally talented wrestler can give him problems, although he handled Sherk very well, but Sherk seemed to be content to try to outbox him. So I don't see him beating BJ, but everybody else is fair game. At 145 absolutely everybody is fair game.
Good post. Thanks.:good I was thinking the same thing in regards to BJ- it always seems BJ is on another level again to these well-rounded up and comers.
