It's his own fault. I live a few miles away from him, he was out getting pissed every week up until he left for the games.
Hes cost himself a serious amount of money if he grabbed a medal and turned pro he could of been a very rich man.
I'm sure frank would have called a few people to get him chin checked before any cheques were signed:hey
To be fair he didnt easily beat Tishenko, and That is probally the worst I've seen Tishenko box, I think Tishenko would have beat him this year
Since you're a ****** I'll repeat for you. He won world amatuer championship only 9 months ago as a lightweight, he's only 23. These amatuers have been training like pros for months, so **** yeah I fully expect them to make weight! To blow if off like his he has to hold some responsibility.
you're not repeating the bit about him winning his qualifier at Lightweight back in March though are you ?, a qualifier he never took part in. He's been a Lightweight for the past 3 years anyway(probably longer) and is only 22 going on 23. It's not unusual for fighters to keep filling out at that stage. Do you really think Gavin just decided 'you know what I'm not too pushed about these Olympics, can't be arsed making the weight really' ? Jose Luis Castillo made Light-Welterweight 9 months ago, do you think he can make it now ? Gavin would have to have made weight on the day for every single fight he took part in. He apparently had to work in the gym for 2 hour after each fight in the WC's to make weight. The guy shouldn't of been at Lightweight in the first place. I do remember one of them saying that they're all best mates and that they 'all go for a drink with one another' on an interview on inside sport. But I can't imagine them doing that for quite a while. No sane person goes and jepardises their dreams with stupid actions like that within weeks of their chance, let alone 8 of them. If any of them were very heavy drinkers I doubt they'd have had the success they did.
Even as a certified ****** :nut I know that you are talking straight out of your ringpiece you cretin. Read the post, he may well have won the lightweight world title 9 months ago, but he won the European lightwelter 7 weeks ago. How would you have got the extra 4Kg of muscle mass off safely in the interevening time you knob cheese, chop his ****ing leg off? The fact of the matter is he should be fighting at a higher weight and it is the responsibility of the team management to recognise the fact, the nutritionalist and conditioning coaches to warn that he wasn't going to make the weight, and yes, Frankie Gavin for not being confident enough to object when the master plan was put to him. :hi:
Yeah, problem is I don't know if we can rely 100% on that version either. Kaye is not going to want to give the impression that he could've ****ed things up as well. I don't think we'll get the whole story for a while yet. And I'm more worried that the finger-pointing and disruption could affect the morale of the rest of the team badly.
I thought after the first round he beat him comfortably. Tishenko ate left counters everytime he came forward.
the aba have nother to do with the olympic team once they are qualified. yeh tbh its Gavins fault, and gavins fault only. im sorry but he is not like khan or haye with really low body fat, if you see him with his shirt of he is not ripped at all.
Straight from AIBA rules : D. Regulations for Continental Qualifying Tournaments: 1. Participation in the 1st Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be restricted to boxers NOT having qualified for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games during the AIBA World Championships 2. Participation in the 2nd Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be restricted to boxers NOT having qualified for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games during the 1st Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournament So since Frankie Gavin (or any other boxer) won an Olympic place in the world championships on autumn 2007, he had no longer a chance to even TRY for a place in any other weight category! This holds true for any fighter qualifying to Top 8 in those Chicago games. It is an absolutely absurd decision which A) forces naturally-growing fighters to forcefully keep their weight down for almost a year. B) Prevents a chance to get in Olympics from athletes who missed the World Championships for any reason and whose countrymen secured a spot there.
