This young Brummie should be coming back from Beijing with gold and will probably be looking to turn pro. I believe I'm talking on behalf of all British Boxing Fans when I say do not sign on with Frank Warren. Sign on with Maloney or Hennessey or even Steve Bunce and aim for a world title without an "O" at the end. Make the most of the huge fanfare olympic glory can bring and drag Boxing to the forefront of British sporting achievement again. POTENTIAL SCENARIO - 3 years on. Some bum wins by disqualification clinching the WBO title from Campbell now aged around 40. Said bum is a blown up super-featherweight not renound for his punching power. Frank Warren survives a minor heart attack caused by over-excitement and instantly clinches a title-shot for Amir Khan who has now defended his Commonwealth title 18 times against opposition considered "too good" for European titles. Opponents include John "tickle gloves" Thompson, Phil "Glass Jaw" McCaw and George "Sitting Duck" Ducklington. Having turned pro Frankie Gavin has made steady but impressive progress and has cleaned out the domestic market. The public go mad they want to see the two Olympians go head to head.... Could this happen?
Should he win gold he will sign with Warren I'm sure of it. I think we both speak for moist boxing fans though when we say please sign with someone else. Warren is a snake.
Maloney is the man - look what he did with Haye and Lennox Lewis. Warren is a snake, whilst Hennessy is hopeless. Warren will get you a WBO title, Hennessy will get you publicity on the back of someone else and a load of opponents that acquire speeding tickets on the way to the venue :deal Better still - just sign with GBP. They will be established over here PDQ.
Gavin could be a better fighter then Khan.... He's got better form already IMO... A Olympic Gold would be a stunning achievement but even without it when Gavin turns pro he's going to make some serious noise.
He will not win gold and could not beat Khan if he his laces were tied together. The guy got a gold at the worlds due to the cuban boycott and all of a sudden people think he is pro WC material. Saunders and a few of the others are much better boxers than Gavin will ever be.
I think Gavin's style is more suited for the amatuers which might make it a difficult transition. Doesnt seem to pack a big punch.
What on earth will Warren do if he signs Gavin? Will he convince the WBO to add an extra version of their world title so both Khan and Gavin can be world champions?
I've seen next to nothing of him, as I don't give a **** about the pitty pat pat a cake amateurs, olympics aside. For those well versed, how do you think he'd adapt to the pro game? What do you think his style would be in the pros? Can he punch his way out of a bag? Chin?
Absolutely, and he runs around the ring alot so I seriously doubt he would be able to last 12 rounds. He's also pretty sloppy aswell but he's got great handspeed.
I get the impression from what I read he's going to be the next Paulie Maglinaggi I'll be an interested observer at the Olympics thats for sure.
I think he beat the no.1 fighter in his divisions at the Worlds who hadn't lost for a couple of years. The Cuban fighter will be one to watch out for as always but it will also be his first Olympics.
