frankie gavin's limitations exposed

Gavin calling Amir out not so long ago was hilarious. The Khan at 147 would stop Gavin badly.

Gavin is an awesome talent, but we can't cite timing (i.e.: the WW Division of today being a shark tank) as to why he won't win a world title. He just doesn't have the power as well to keep the bigger guys off of him.

 

Not if he still fights like an amateur. He's not really adapted his style to the pro game. Just point fighting really.

I have thought this with many other fighters, in that they could have been moved on, but instead had draining fights at British level and then being burned out when finally stepped up. I hadnt thought this about Gavin until I saw your post, but maybe you are right in that although he hasnt had loads of pro fights, he hasnt progressed at the speed, I think many thought he would when turning pro after such a good amateur career.
There are several that I can think of, who I felt would have possibly gone further if stepped up sooner. Still not sure either way with F Gavin

Gavin is the most talented of the lot but is barely Euro Level. He's better than his British counterparts but failed the test at Euro. That's no-mans land. Degale and BJS are fighting for world titles next year! His out of the ring choices have affected his in ring life and caught up with him, simple.

British fighters are INFATUATED with 'winning the commonwealths and the lonsdales outright'. That's great in the traditional-apprenticeship sense, but just crack on and bypass it. They just aren't that important, IMO. World titles matter, full stop.

 

Do they, reckon any british fighter who has serious ambitions sees the likes of British and commonwealth as a step on the ladder - reckon the board should make it two defences to keep the belt as anyone who is decent isn't likely to keep the belt for that long

 

No, it should remain as 3 to win the Lonsdale outright.

 

Frankie will be just fine as long as he doesn't listen to people like you.

Regarding Thurman, he did a professional job against Bundu but his stock has fallen massively in doing it to the point that no one is talking about him any more.

Frankie knows he made a big mistake against Bundu in the 6th round and will learn from that. He looked world class in those first 5 rds though and showed the heart of a champion in the last 2 rds to come back and win.

My only criticism of Frankie would be that he needs higher level sparring then he's currently getting, which would better prepare him for European and World class opposition. I think he also needs to work on his concentration levels over 12 rds as he can sometimes drift off in fights and go into auto-pilot mode which you can get away with at domestic level but not against European and World level opponents as they'll make you pay for it.

There's a good chance Frankie will be fighting for the European title next against Branco, if he wins that it'll open a lot of doors and get him a Final eliminator fight for one of the World belts.

The WBA belt will become vacant soon and Frankie should be rated in the Top 10 next time they update their rankings so that's the belt to aim at.

As for Kell Brook...are you kidding? I would put Frankie in against Brook tomorrow and be confident that Frankie would put up a great performance and even pull off an upset if he kept focused for all 12 rds.

As I've said before he needs to move down a weight or two, none of the top 10 welters would bother with him (not the likes of floyd/manny/Khan/Marquez but the likes of brook/thurman/maidana/bradley/porter) as he brings nothing unless it's an easy defence and barring the usual go down the wbo route that wazza does for his fighters he isn't getting a title shot as a mandatory as there are far more better fighters than him at that weight and he struggles to sell 1500 as a main event in his back yard, brutal honest truth is that he doesn't offer much

 

Maidana, Bradley, Porter, Thurman - Those guys are animals. They will catch Frankie sooner or later as he just won't be able to keep them off of him due to his non-existent power. Besides, he's a high-risk fight In my view...

Doesn't Gavin train out of an amateur club? This kid is OBSESSED with everything amateur. He always bring up his accomplishments in the ams, fights like an amateur and still trains in an amateur gym! Get out of there and into a top pro gym or travel to the states for 6 months.

When I watch Gavin I just see below average boxer at best. He has also displayed lack of conditioning and discipline in and outside of the ring. I hope he proves me wrong but I honestly would be surprised if he made it past European level.
