RIP. That straight right hand that parked Chavez on his ass for the first time was a legendary moment in the sport.
R I P Champ everything he got he earned, not like the pampered divas of today Thankyou for the Memories Frankie The Surgeon Randall Sincere condolences to the family
He had been in a local nursing home for some time, suffering from a form of Parkinson and dementia brought on by fighting too long when he was finished. At the end his son said he really didn't recognize many people. Death in his case was a welcome relief. Everyone in our hometown loved him and always wanted the best for him despite his demons and flaws that held him back in life and in the ring .
He thoroughly whipped his azz in that fight, it was Chavez who consistently backed out of the inside exchanges. It was a wonder with Don King that Frankie even got the decision. Frankie got robbed in the rematch , Chavez quit because he knew he was going to get stopped and it should have been a TKO, besides the fact no way was Julio ahead on the cards.
Was really sad and dissapointed for Chavez when Frankie Randall beat him. A few days later after I rewatched the fight, I got chills watching the decision and the emotion on Randall's face and body as the decision was announced, "........and new" RIP Champ!
Everybody knew that Frankie got robbed in the rematch but most people didn't want to see their favourite fighter getting beaten again by the same opponent. It would have been a great impact on Chavez's boxing career and record.
Frankie earned it the hard way. Boxing took at least 20 years of him but also made him immortal for millions of fans RIP Champ
Want to express my deep regrets to his family. I read about how he was doing poorly, but he is now in a better place and pain free. He suffered because he loved boxing so much, that he could not give it up, and whereas the hurt of losing a wonderful husband and father cannot be mitigated, he did things his own way, on his own terms, and that is more than most can say. He handed my all-time favorite fighter his first defeat, and I'll always love the man for it. That's boxing! Rest in peace, old pal.
