what ever happened to the surgeon....i remeber him outfighting chavez in a huge upset..(and repeating it in a rematch..??).......where did his career go from there.....
Randall had a very solid run as an alphabet titlist post Chavez, until Randall lost to Rahilou. That was it for Frankie after that. Always remember Randall having that fight Rosario as a main event for a Lawless bill at the York Hall... How:think
Randall "lost" a rematch to JCC 4 months later. The fight was stopped on a clash of heads and JCC didn't want to go on with the bad cut. The judges gave it to Chavez, and JCC (or Don King) avoided a rubber match with Randall for about a decade. Randall went on to win another belt @ 140 and was considered the top 140 lb fighter for a little while.
Randall's career was derailed by Don King. As Erratic Behavior explained, Randall lost the rematch to Chavez. There was an accidental clash of heads, Chavez got cut, the ringside physician gave him the choice of deciding whether to continue, and Chavez declined. The bout went to the scorecards. Here's one thing I never understood: although the butt was ruled accidental, the ref deducted a point from Randall because of it. The result of that deduction -- Randall was a split decision loser, rather than retaining his title on a split draw. Don King was promoting Chavez, and didn't want to see that meal ticket expire, so instead of promoting the Randall-Chavez rubber match any time soon, he said that Randall would build up more interest by going off to fight for the WBA 140-pound title. As if there wasn't sufficient interest from the fact that Randall had beaten Chavez once and looked on his way to beating him a second time. Randall beat Juan Coggi for the WBA belt, defended it a couple of times, and then Coggi got himself back up to number one contender status. In the Randall-Coggi rematch, Randall was done in by the same thing that tripped him up against Chavez: a clash of heads. Again, it was an accidental coming together. Coggi went down, holdiing his head, and then looked like he was about to get up. But his corner told him to stay down, so he rolled around on the canvas, holding his head and writhing in fake pain for a couple of minutes. Coggi never got up, and had to be carried out of the ring in an acting job even Bruce Seldon would have been ashamed of. Again, Randall got a point taken away, and he lost the title by technical decision by one point on each of the judges' scorecards. So he fought Coggi a third time, and regained the title by comfortable decision. But this wasted two years of Randall's career, and he was no spring chicken at that time, anyway. He lost to Rahilou in his next fight, at age 35.
Everybody can look at the guys record. Where is he now? Is he training fighters? Is he on drugs somewhere. What is he doing.
He currently works for Roberto Duran's food business. Randall and another ex professional boxer sell hamburgers and hotdogs in downtown Panama City. Randall sells the food from a mobile van.
Randall had huge drug problems... that's where all his money went... right up his nose... But he was one of the great technicians of our time... with a killer punch... You wanna watch a great, intense technical match? Catch Randall vs Jimmy Paul...
My bad... I meant Freddy Pendleton, who also fought a classic with Jimmy Paul and knocked out Roger Mayweather... :good
and stopped him in seven in the rematch. randall was actually considered as a challenger for dela hoya as a tuneup for oscars fight with tito. so he fought oba carr in an eliminator......lost a UD and oba got the shot. randall was a journeyman afterwards, losing basically all his fights.
Amazed to see no one talked about Khalid Rahilou... My bad, he is french. Rahilou stopped Randall in a terrific fight shortly after this one beat the great Chavez. It was the beggining of the end for Frankie right away.
