Very interesting. Price obviously had great power but the way Clarke describes him it seems like it was next level.

I don't think power was one of Price's shortcomings. I wouldn't say he's at the very top of the totem pole but he could hit very hard from everything I ever saw of him.

    The big lummox.

Probably the biggest failure of British boxing in recent times.

This guy getting another shot at the British title or what?

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all. I consider Price one of the hardest brute force punchers I've ever seen, for as little as it got him on the world stage.

Not really a shock statement. Price has real power.

Not that surprising, given he was a huge guy who always displayed good power even at the top level, like when he staggered Povetkin.

I've heard numerous HWs say the same over the years

    Here's another one of them

    Prolific sparring partner: Adam Machaj
Well, one indication lies with the select group of fighters who have exchanged leather will a group of the biggest contenders. One such example is journeyman Adam Machaj.

In a 2017 interview with World Boxing News, Machaj revealed that he has sparred with Joshua, Fury, Wladimir Klitschko as well as British favourites David Price and Dereck Chisora.

He stated: “I’ve sparred all of them, I was in the Klitschko camp for three weeks. I’ve sparred Tyson and Hughie a lot of times, David Price I’ve done a lot of rounds with, I’ve trained with them all.”

The toughest, most powerful and fittest
Quite the selection of fighters, no doubt about it and Machaj had different ways of ranking their qualities.

He chose the ‘toughest fighter’ from the four, the best athlete and who punches the hardest.

Conveniently, four of the boxers fitted into at least one of the four categories.

Machaj decided: “The toughest one I fought in terms of ability was Tyson, he’d beat most of the names out of shape now, getting off the settee. He’s too skilful.

“He runs you around and makes you angry. In terms of a physical athlete it has to be Klitschko and Joshua, they’re the biggest athletes.

“David Price was probably the biggest puncher as every punch he landed hurt, whilst Chisora was good as he was like a little Tasmanian devil, they’re all good in their own rights.

Perhaps the biggest comment of note is that Price is ranked as more powerful than three of the biggest names in 21st Century boxing.

Price is known for his power, but it’s quite the accolade to pack more punch than Klitschko, Joshua and Fury.

However, if anyone would know, it’s Machaj.'

Price knocked out AJ on his face in the gym

He KO'd Glowacki in 2 rounds in the ams with a booming right hand

Price stopping the then #1 ranked SHW in the world in the Olympics. Timurziev was a very good fighter and was the favourite for gold IIRC

Offensively Price was very good. Massive power, good punch variety and shot selection, whilst not quick he wasn't slow, and he could generate huge power from shots without loading up which didn't look as hard as they obviously were. He might have had a poor chin and subsequently become gun-shy after suffering KO losses but there was a reason why he was hyped

Price was also taller than Fury despite being listed as an inch shorter

It's pretty obvious that Price hits extremely hard up there with the best of them. If he had embraced his inner glass cannon he would have been way more effective. Povetkin and Thompson II show that he was dangerous for anyone when he just went for broke and let his hands fly.

I reckon Pricey's one of the world's best in 3 rounders (like in football, some guys are crap at 11 v 11 but elite at 5 v 5/street football).

His power was never in question. If only he didn’t have the lung capacity of a gerbil he might’ve won a world title.

It's why Price fights were the best. You knew somebody was getting KTFO.

    That Povetkin fight was superb.
